It has gone almost unnoticed in the media but Zimbabweans are voting today in their first election since the ouster of Robert Mulgabe as President. By my count there are 23 candidates contesting the Presidency with the two front runners being the incumbent President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, representing ZANU- PF (the ruling Party) and Nelson Chamisa from the MDC-T (the official Opposition).
Zimbabwe, being Zimbabwe, and the polls are all over the place. The latest poll has Mnangagwa leading Chamisa 40% to 37%.
And in a somewhat bizarre twist yesterday saw Mulgabe declare that he would not be voting for the Party he founded and was instead supporting MDC-T. Clearly, anything is possible in Zimbabwe.
