In the wake of Zimbabwe’s election and the surprisingly narrow victory by ZANU-PF’s Emmerson Mnangagwa (76) over MDC-T’s Nelson Chamisa (40) a ZANU-PF MP intends moving in Parliament a motion to limit those standing for President to people aged 55 or older.

His rationale … people under 55 doesn’t have the experience to be President. An alternative explanation might be that it takes the charismatic MDC-T leader out of play for the next 15 years.

ZANU-PF gained a two-thirds majority in the Parliament.   That allows them to amend the constitution at will.

WRP pinched the right to expel recalcitrant MPs from Parliament directly out of the ZANU-PF handbook.    It will be interesting to see whether he picks up on this initiative also.   I suspect Fairy Stardust might just have an alternative view on this.

ps … Yes, I know, the US Constitution bars a person under 35 from being POTUS.    Big difference 35 and 55.
