Amidst the hysteria and push to make changes under the confusion and distractions arising from the Covid 19 pandemic there have been some subtle and almost covert moves to progress a move away from Cash as the consideration component of business.

Raising the level for contact card use from $80 to $200, outright refusal to accept cash in payment, but two examples of such change.

One commercial enterprise on the edge of my “bubble”, continuing trade as an  ‘essential’ activity has some more mature clients who still pay by Cheque as they are resisting phone and internet banking.
They are not even able to deposit funds at their local provincial center ASB branch but must take the bits of dirty paper to a branch in a neighbouring town. They were even prevented as previously permitted,  depositing the cheques in a slot at their local branch ATM.

Now being a tad whimsical,  how the hell will say  Lawnmower salesmen who seem closer than reasonable to the current excuse for national leadership “bubbles”, manage without “the folding stuff”.

Surely they are sufficiently aware that electronic banking and commerce will not be a best practice for their nefarious activities and when one thinks about it what the hell might payment “in kind” possibly be?

A cashless society may not be so widely welcome me thinks?
