So far in the land governed by the most transparent government evah, well over 130 citizens have perished on or roads.
In those six months a mere 22 citizens have passed away with some degree of Covid 19 infection, while never given publicity it is almost certain those twenty two sadly no longer with us would most likely have passed by years end with zero Covid 19 infection.
Rosewood home in Spreydon Christchurch accounts for eleven of the 22 with St Margarets of Te Atatu having another four. Over two thirds of the covid related deaths from two rest homes where many people seek their last home address.
There are emerging reports that the “Lock Down’ that has probably crippled the NZ economy for decades was not very successful in containing the Viral Pandemic while all virus related infections have reduced significantly. With some health professionals suggesting social distancing and personal hygiene coupled with considerably higher awareness of personal responsibility may account for the New Zealand success in Covid response.
Meanwhile the extremely overblown performance of The Silly Little Girl who seems preoccupied elsewhere as random failures of Covid prevention leak back into focus with at last count proven cases of five new infections ending the dream run of the mythical zeros at twenty four days.
It is often suggested it will not be over until “The Fat Lady Sings”. Well there have been several non musical performances by a certain Ms Woods (PhD) who has adopted a strategy with the inept media of talking for some time while totally failing to actually say anything of relevance.
Meanwhile in the real world inhabited by wealth creators attempting to swim against a current of the wonderful Governments creation to stay standing in business large and small, the road toll, although not surprisingly reduced by many enduring nearly two months out of six of effective “House Arrest” is according to the latest published by the MoT at one hundred and thirty two, or if you wish a clear one hundred and ten more than the “Pandemic” used by an inept government and its titular leader in claiming Thousands of lives “saved”.
GD, any possible dissembling and obfuscations from you to the contrary, referring to female politicians as a “Silly Little Girl” or barely disguised references to “The Fat Lady sings” when referring to Megan Woods (and yes you were) detracts from whatever valid points you are making. And you have plenty, btw. Your bbq, so you get to cook it up as you want, but IMHO it makes for a bad taste experience…and says more about your failings than theirs (of which, as I agree, there are plenty, and that deserves to be the sole focus). Not offended, more unimpressed you chose to resort to a choice of phrase that would appeal to the simple “humour” (I’m being kind) of meatheads, or the reflexive reaction of trolls. 0k, bait the trolls if you wish, but more subtlety in your sport would be appreciated from this punter. But hey, freedom of speech and all that, and as before I’m not seeking to be a hall monitor, so if you think otherwise, knock yourself out. BTW, Woods, IMHO is one of the few quality performers, in damage control at least – of which they have abundant need – in a government with talent as deep as petri dish…and yeah, that was a deliberately chosen analogy too.
The 22 people who died were a cost of the pandemic, not the goal, so why you are pointing to a ludicrously low death as evidence of failure only your febrile brain can discern. If we had followed Sweden, we’d be heading towards 3,000 (10 years of road deaths if you like). As I understand it, you yourself are at high risk, so, you know, you’re welcome.
the road toll, although not surprisingly reduced by many enduring nearly two months out of six of effective \”House Arrest\” is according to the latest published by the MoT at one hundred and thirty two,I can agree with you that this is far too many lost lives, but how many more would there be if we didn't social distance by keeping to the left, didn't take precautions like wearing a seat belt, didn't reduce the likelihood of greater deaths by community transmission by not limiting the number of passengers in a vehicle?Your right to drive like an idiot has been curtailed, and by taking this action, we have reduced the road toll dramatically. What would you have done?
Wasn't the road toll supposed to be reduced to zero by the 'we can do this, posidividly' government by now?Oddball
The 22 people who died were a cost of the pandemic,…Actually the cost of the pandemic – and more precisely the response to it – are still piling up and will not be known for some time. But by that time, Hal's Heroes will be into their 2nd term with massive increases in social welfare to compensate for this clusterfuck. Maybe even a 3rd term. And \”Hal\” wont' care.
There’s a big difference between the definite and indefinite article, Tom. I suggest you look it up. You’re welcome. No one says there is not an economic cost here. The argument you are running is that it’s too high, but given your full-throated support of the border closures you haven’t suggested a way of avoiding them. Other than those closures we are now fully open for business. Unlike Australia for example. Again, you’re welcome.
Actually I was thinking of the cost in terms of death-by-lockdown as well as the economy, Hal. All lives matter you know. But to be fair to the government those lives were never part of the original calculation anyway, so there's no reason to count them now, or for you to think about them.
What death by lockdown, Tom? Where is your evidence of excess death in New Zealand (hint, there isn’t any)? We’re out of lockdown early now anyway, so even if the false claims you are making were true were still ahead of elsewhere. Road deaths, which Gravetodger is worried about, are down by around 60 this year, so you have at least one positive externality, and you have provided no evidence of any negative externalities. So, more good news, I’m afraid. You’re welcome.Yes, there has been economic damage, but how much of that is specifically lockdown related vs the economic damage we would have suffered regardless? Anyway, now that we’re operating one of the most open economies and societies on earth you should be happy. I wonder why you’re not? Cognitive decline possibly, but it may be that you’re just a tool.
What death by lockdown, TomVisible Death vs. Invisible Death
No evidence then. Thanks.
