No Minister

He Who Laughs Last

It was only a few days ago Adolf and couple of Left leaning commenters were arguing about use of the term ‘eliminate the virus’ in heaping praise upon the withers of NZ’s PM.

Adolf argued that one cannot elimnate the virus but merely attempt to control it. Derision followed.

So today it is with satisfaction I can report per TVNZ

https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/three-new-covid-19-cases-announced-in-zealand-v1

Well, that didn’t take long. Eliminated eh?

Just like all their other failures.

  1. We have eliminated the virus from the community. Sure we have the virus in isolation hotels and labs but the last community transmission was over 2 months ago. We have full stadiums for Canterbury Auckland matches, I went to a funeral along with 200 others, many handshakes and hugs, etc. Over here we are going about our business without any risk of contracting or passing on the virus. Life is good.

    • Your heroine, St Jacinda, of Mt Albert, is hoping that we will not see an outbreak before the election but eventually it will happen because Governments are not omnipotent

  2. Seriously? Yes, some people returning from overseas will have the virus. That’s why we have managed isolation. Cases of community transmission continues to equal 0, ie virus remains eliminated from NZ. That could change, the same as it has in Aus and other places, and it could change tomorrow, but for today ‘eliminated’ is the accurate term for the situation in NZ.

    • Agree with PM this time – in managed isolation doesn’t count as in NZ, effectively.

But bad luck combined with some shonky management of the isolation system may see an outbreak here. If that happens the utterly hopeless so-called “gold standard” contact tracing setup here could really be a problem for us.

  3. In case you didn’t notice we have a new case nearly every day from returnees.

I understand how you feel. I felt the same way this time back in 2011 when I knew there was no hope for Labour.
