Sometimes it is nice to return home, and see things haven’t changed. That Really Good Fresh Jerky is still available, along with a “God Bless You” as you leave. 🙂 In a few week’s time, I’ll be able to chow down Big O’s baby back ribs again and sit at the Yacht Club bar, waiting for the tide to come in.
Some other things that should have changed, however, haven’t. Like the stranglehold Christian authoritarians are trying to maintain on Public Education. Winslow Unified Scool District held staff captive while they were being harangued by 6 different preachers, requests that they raise hands to show belief in God, and being assured God will “protect them from COVID-19”.
Forced prayer, the fascist way.
Clearly more to come on this subject but I will hold my own beer.
Perhaps some information on the armed guards at all doors, other wise why did those being “harangued” just sit and take it, the saloon would have had my patronage well before the first of six padres has gone very far.
565.64 deaths per million is acceptable for a country with 10 million? Just so people can get their nails done?
GDP still fell 8.6%, not much better than the far larger German economy.
But hey, Wiggler, go live in Sweden if gettting youyr nails done spins your wheels.
No masks, no lockdown, no panic, just a lot of economic damage and a death count that so far equates to around 2900 people in NZ terms. If Ardern’s government could boast that level of ‘success’, National would be quids-in to win this election, so I can see why you’re promoting this shit, but suppose National had been in power – how chuffed would you be about them having to go into this election having done fuck-all about a pandemic and having presided over a horrendous death count that hadn’t even prevented significant economic damage? They’d be going down big-time if they’d followed your preferred solution, not that I expect that will give you a moment’s pause.
Whats Plan B Milt, given the UK experience
Lesson from the UK’s experience is: don’t put the most corrupt, incompetent bunch of Tories seen for centuries in charge of running your country. We seem to have mastered that one so should be OK.
Thought for the day
“Just one electric car or backup-power battery weighs 1,000 pounds and requires extracting and processing some 500,000 pounds of various ores, Mills says. The true costs of “green” energy are staggering.”
In England:
A team of researchers in England has discovered that dexamethasone, an affordable, widely available steroid shows promise in improving survival outcomes in COVID-19 patients.
Dexamethasone, a common steroid used to treat inflammation, was found to cut deaths by up to one-third in a study of more than 6,000 severely ill patients. More than 2,100 received the drug.
The British government has authorized its use among some patients. However, it remains unclear how beneficial the treatment may be for less severe COVID-19 cases. Further, it has not been peer-reviewed or replicated in other studies.
In Taiwan:
Only seven deaths of Covid-19 in Taiwan!
“Same situation in Japan,” says Dr Bartlett. “One hundred and twenty-one million people in Japan, and they’ve had less than a thousand people die during the whole pandemic. In Singapore, only 12 people have died in the entire country during the whole pandemic.”
What is the secret to these low death counts?
People in those countries are using an inhaled steroid called budesomide, says Dr Bartlett, who calls budesomide the “silver bullet.”
“It’s super cheap,” say Dr. Bartlett. “It’s about $200 for the entire treatment if you use cash. Many of my patients who use insurance pay
The Internet is full of stories about miracle drugs that will cure Covid-19. They’re put there to suck in the credulous and the not very bright. Why would you advertise that you’re in that target market?
Fascinating Chart this one.
Remember Milt saying above the Tories are corrupt etc and that Labour have mastered the situation. Of course he forgot to mention that our dear leader contacted her girlfriends in the UK seekjng their advice. According to Jacinda they said follow the UK into lockdown, and of course we did, backed by Ashleigh and the 50,000 deaths from a computer model.
Yeah right!
Yep Rossco, always listen to the anonymous clown on Twitter.
If NZ had only followed his advice, the death toll would be ~2,840. Why that’s nearly 130 times more betterer than that lazy cow PM achieved.
What? You mean this is like golf and a LOWER score is better? So, by following good policy, NZ has had less than 1% of the deaths you’d like to see inflicted on the nation simply because YOU can’t go a day without getting your toenails done!
I didn’t mention Ardern taking advice from the worst government the UK has experienced in centuries because I haven’t seen anything to suggest it happened.
The UK government’s response to Covid-19 will go down in history as a by-word for hubris, incompetence and mixed messaging. Giving us a chart that shows the effects of that world-beating unfitness for office relative to the effects in Sweden is supposed to tell us what, exactly? That a competent government (Sweden’s) can achieve similarly bad results if it takes the wrong approach?
Too much Gusto not enough Frinkee eh David.
Its not listening mate but looking at a graph and drawing conclusions between 2 countries that handled the Covid differently.
So appreciate the comment but since thinking independently is not your strong suit you’ve wasted your time, suggest you pop back and re read your Beano collection..
If however you do get a dose of this flu I have posted a couple of cures since I suspect you are over 80 years old and will know thats where it hits hardest…. and you chances arent good (fingers crossed)
From The Daily Telegraph:
Sorry dont mean to do am Egbut
“Then came July, and a reminder that lockdown is no long-term solution to a pandemic. Infection rates began to creep up in countries which had locked down – first Spain, then Germany, France, Belgium. Some have been going to into selective second lockdowns. All they had really done by incarcerating their populations for weeks is sweep the virus under the carpet for another day. Sweden, by contrast, has as yet seen no second wave.”
Some of you might ask why no second wave in Sweden?
I’d suspect Herd Immunity.
We live in NZ, not the UK. What a relatively short lock-down has done here is eliminate community transmission and enable lifting of all restrictions except the travel ones. Sweden has travel restrictions, a ban on gatherings of more than 50 people and a whole list of social distancing requirements, with the ongoing economic damage associated with that.
If Ardern’s government had saddled us with 2800 dead and ongoing restrictions, you and National would be shouting about incompetence and it would be much harder to disagree with you than it is now. Stop making yourself look foolish.
