In which a senior National Party official pretends to be someone else so he can undermine a candidate of his own party, including a smear campaign against her in which a photo of her in a leotard is parlayed into a bullshit story about her being a stripper (an attack line which reveals the male leadership’s fucked-up attitudes to women in more ways than one). Nice to see that you are more concerned with some internal ructions within National (where I am certain there will be some savage bloodletting for the culprit(s)) than you are with revelations of barefaced lying by thePM, Minister of Finance and DG of Health on multiple occasions.
These untruths being consistently promulgated which is a pretty good indication that it was planned and considered and was no accidental slip of the tongue.
Add in the $16 million spend on spin lines during the “crisis” and you complete the picture of a deeply corrupt Government that promulgates expressions of TRUTH, TRUST, HONESTY, and COMPASSION but is all the time operating in the opposite manner and is treating the population as convenient idiots to be manipulated as it suits.
Of the two issues, I know which one concerns me the most and which one has the capacity to impact on me and on the ability of the country to work its way out of the enormously deep hole this Government has dug us all into.
Yes, I am much more concerned about having a completely dysfunctional Opposition (something that isn’t good for the country) than I am about allegations of lies and corruption from partisans. During the Key years in government, some commenters at The Standard kept a running tally of the alleged lies and corruption that supposedly typified that governments operation. It’s just noise.
