Mind you Maryanne Trump Barry has issues herself having just ‘retired’ as an Federal Appellate Court Judge – thus ending a judicial investigation as to whether she broke judicial conduct rules by committing tax fraud. Because she retired the investigation was automatically ended. The investigation followed a NY Times report that the Trump family had participated in tax schemes to maximize Trump, Barry and their siblings inheritances.
Clearly an interesting family but about par for the course for the US mega rich. Reminds one of the saying attributed to Leona Helmsley, NY real estate heiress and hotelier (nicknamed the Queen of Mean) that ‘We don’t pay taxes, Only the little people pay taxes’. Convicted of tax fraud she went to prison.
But whatever … something Trump could well do without on the eve of the Republican Convention.

As per Harold Macmillan’s dictum that the driving force of politics is, “events my dear fellow, events”, Covid will decide the election and National will primarily have to hope the tide of opportunity turns.
But it would appear they have at least stopped changing leaders like underwear and have settled on one who has both charisma/presence, and is competent. Time will tell if she is sufficiently competent and industrious to grab the opportunity if it comes. And that is still a big IF.
