No Minister

So here I am in NZL, a cricket fan, reduced to watching Oz vs India on Sky Sport 52 because that’s all there is available while my mate in West Oz is able to flick channels and watch both Oz vs India and NZL vs the Windies.

And yes, I know Spark Sport has it live but as a long time Sky Sport customer I expect better. Much better.

  1. I watch all cricket except T20 – so like you I am going to be highly pissed off once the `proper cricket’ starts.

I already pay Spark about $160 most months – I am not paying them to watch the cricket.

  2. It seems that Sky, including Sky Sports, has learned nothing from the last twenty years of declining viewership and cancelled subscriptions. Thus I find it sad to hear an older man’s complaint about them nowadays. Not that I am unsympathetic but more that I am surprised that you are surprised at how shabbily they treat you.

For younger blokes like me – and I’m not that much younger than you guys – Sky Sports died years ago. I canned my subscription in 2004. If that meant I saw little rugby or cricket then so be it. Perhaps it’s like a drug where you slowly ease off it. I can honestly say that I miss all these things not at all now. Moreover, I hear little discussion of such things among men half my age, and among teenage kids not at all.

Such things are a sign not just of great danger for Sky in the future, but for NZ sports.
