Does cold increase alcohol consumption?

I suspect it does because it keeps people inside their homes near the source of supply.

There seems no other explanation for the following map of excessive drinking in the USA, where it’s the more Northern and Mid-Western counties that are beating not just the East and West Coast but even those notorious blocks of Appalachian hillbillies and their Moonshine whiskey.
