A couple of years ago I decided to visit Melbourne since I had old NZ friends living there and I had never been to the place.

I’d heard all the jokes about The People’s Republic of Melbourne and so forth, and certainly my Lefty friends have loved living there since they fit in so well, with their tiny houses just 10 minutes tram ride from the Queen Victoria Market.

A week exploring the downtown area showed me what else they liked about it, especially all the hundreds of wonderful little shops crammed into the old, narrow alleyways, the so-called Laneways.

A guided tour of the area informed me that these were quite recent, the result of a deliberate government effort to entice people into these places that just three decades ago had been the empty, wind-blown, rat-infested dumps they are in other cities.

I liked the city far more than Sydney, which I’ve visited many times, even if the waterfront is not as spectacular and the winters harsher.

But given what’s been going on there and in the surrounding state of Victoria in response to the dreaded Covid, I doubt I’ll be going back anytime soon. The lockdowns and restrictions on civil liberties have been at East German levels, have lasted for months, and have not stopped the disease running its course. It also appears the locals may finally have had enough of the government they elected, including the local Stasi. There have been protests before but the Stasi had managed to keep them contained.

The comments from the sidelines are priceless. More here at this link. BTW, the 70 year old woman who got shoved over by the cops has a broken hip and concussion. The real criminals of Melbourne must be loving this as they find more and more people everyday who will despise the cops as much as they do.

From the comments:

Dan Andrew tricked us, we kept our end of the deal 70 percent double vaxxed and where are we now, same place we were 2 years ago, except we have 400x fold of daily cases, martial law, house arrest, and a tier of society excluded indefinitely, this is not what we signed up for.

Oh bullshit. This is exactly what you signed up for. You voted in a nasty little control freak Lefty, and you were happy to have a “right-wing” opposition that’s little different, as NSW shows.

UPDATE:

Wow, the head of the CFME Union (Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy) got absolutely bolloxed today by his own members, this one over a vaccine mandate it seems.

“I’ve done jail for this union. I’ve stood on picket lines for this union,… We have tried to keep CFMEU working since April last year… I did not mandate vaccinations.”

The didn’t care and he ends up getting forced back inside the CFME building.
