No Minister

I see the cost of petrol has rocketed up to $2.33 per litre (standard grade) at our local Mr Waitomo here in Paihia. Gonna be interesting to see the inflation figures for the September quarter.

Not sure all those luvvly Labour voting millennials know what inflation is and what it can do.

But I’m sure Jacinda will find a way to explain it away although I’m not sure ‘It was National’s fault’ will have any great gravitas.

    • I guess Vet if you can’t see the connection between what I wrote and the rampant inflation we are witnessing it goes a long way in explaining lot of things

It is tragedy watching one of the most idyllic places to live on Earth being driven into poverty

You can delete this if you want – wont fix anything though, will it

I paid 249.9 cents per litre for the 96 octane my car requires this morning, a cool $133.49 to fill it up

  2. Andrei … you’re drawing a long bow with the supposed connection but I’m happy to let your latest stand. The reasons for the price increase are myriad and complex and include the running down of Marsden Point.

Your position on Covid is well understood and clearly we agree to disagree. But that’s not for this thread,

    • Andrei what province are you living in?

Just curious but I am sure petrol is not that dear in Hastings – I will have a look tomorrow.

  3. Goodness me. I’m moaning about paying $1.47/litre.

You must be paying a helluva lot of Jacintax.

  4. I guess Veteran what makes both Science and Democracy actually work is a diversity of views and frank and open debate,

Discussion of inflation that worries us both cannot be separated from the policies that have demolished our third biggest FX earner and sees a large proportion of the productive and entrepreneurial segment of the population forced into involuntary idleness

When you write as post criticizing Labour for their inflationary policies “you are preaching to the choir” with regard to most of this blog’s readership I suspect.

Which might be satisfying when comments consist of people metaphorically nodding their heads in agreement with you

But achieves absolutely nothing with regard to resolving the underlying issues…

    • Karamu Road, Hastings about 90 minutes ago:

96 Caltex and Shell about 150 metres apart same ownership – both 2.44.7
98 Gull across the road from shell – 2.28.7 or 9 I couldn’t remember which when I got home.

I use 91 and Caltex is usually a couple of cents a litre cheaper than the other two plus both shell and caltex have Air Point and Fly Buy discounts of 6 or 10c. I don’t watch the premium grades very much – had to make a special trip toget these prices..
