Were I an anarchist I’d be loving this. Online – not just via FaceTwit but the community groups like Neighbourly and others – Aucklanders are doing the whole passive aggressive thing, turning on each other and bullying each other to be vaccinated.
So cool.
That’s 90% first jab, which, as we have been reliably informed, is not enough to count as “fully vaccinated”.
Mind you, at the rate we’re going, six months from now, you won’t be counted as fully vaccinated until you’ve had your second booster shot.

You need a good sample size to know if it works. Take the UK, 80% vax rate, 60 million people… that should do.

Take a look at the cases and deaths charts. Cases continue to rise. Deaths stay flat. The vaccine doesn’t stop you catching it (but it helps – unvaccinated cases are far more common than vaccinated despite the population being mostly vaccinated)

That is an unimpeachable statistic. I bet those 256 would have died from co-morbidities without COVID.
The vaccine reduces spread, massively reduces serious illness and all but eliminates deaths.

Tom I believe they actually mean two jabs, not one, which means that even if 90% go and get vaccinated today we still have another SIX WEEKS of lockdown,
And by then, boosters will magically become part of the equation, and the goalposts will move out again.
And all this is because of one “bogus” modeler’s assumptions coming up to 90%.
The only way out of this is to come up with an attainable target and end restrictions then. And that target is 80% first jab – about 2% from where we are now..
90% won’t happen. There’s a rump of 10+% who just won’t. They are either so disconnected from society that they are outside the messaging, or they are actively anti-vax nutters, or they are “I don’t give a shit” generation Y youngsters.

Para 4. There is always more than one solution out of a problem, you simply seemed to have ignored what the rest of the world has done. I guess John Key was right, Hermit Kingdom Syndrome.
Para 5 The Vet will be happy that you have replaced him as the anti Vakkzer and taken on board its rhetoric. Very intelligent discourse but I guess I ‘m not a qualified Virologist like your good self.
Oh and I wont be getting the Fizzer Vakky, where does that put me on your list.

Why would anybody in their right mind trust the New Zealand on anything let alone an experimental vaccine that has not been tested according to the standards required before any treatment is authorised for general therapeutic use
I do not trust the New Zealand Government nor their so called “experts™”, who have been consistently wrong on everything they have said !

You will never be fully vaccinated. How long will it take New Zealanders to realise what is happening. There will be a continuous supply of patches and updates for Covid 1984 [give it a Greek alphabet name;] and none of them will do much but clot your brain.. Now who do we know who was famous for developing a continuous and ongoing series of software updates for a mongrel program called Windows ?

We keep expecting certainty and sanity where there is none to be had.
Had to turn off the radio this morning, Nick Mills on Newstalk ZB Wellington is almost completely rabid now, with his no jab no job fervor (linked to 90% vax) and calls for Brian Tamaki’s head on a spike. He’s grasping at anything that might be a lifeline for his hospitality businesses without taking into account that there has been absolutely no promises made that lock downs will end once we hit that magic number. All they have said is that they will be less likely to be needed and 90% will give them options.
The first I heard of 90% vax target was Stuart Nash’s bet with Mike Hosking – I remember the shock and surprise from both Mike and the National guy, whatever his name is, that 90% was remotely possible. And now its’ a target! LOL.
BTW, the default ad that keeps popping up on the bottom the screen keeps blocking the post window and the post comment butting. Have swapped from maximised window to unmaximised several times. It works for a while, then it overlays again .. ah, the scroll to bottom of the screen does it, just covered over the post button again.

Heh. It was actually my kid’s suggestion, since The Dark Knight is one of their all-time fave movies.
I’ll leave it to others on this blog to dissect the latest announcements here in NZ since I focus mostly on the USA, but I gather we’re going from levels to steps, which sounds like the Marketing BS I majored in a lifetime ago. The one glimmer of light I saw was her acknowledgement, finally, that “we’ll have to start learning to live with the virus and the sad realities that come with it – cases, hospitalisations and deaths.”
Better late than never on that and the end of the elimination “strategy”. She, and frankly most of the rest of NZ, were fooled by their own success with the L4 lockdown last year driving case numbers to zero, thinking it would work a second trick with a more infectious virus. Na uh!
As far as the 90% figure is concerned, Croaking Cassandra (Michael Reddell) had a few things to say about that when he crunched the MOH vax numbers, Vaccinations by age</a href>. We’ve barely cracked that for first jab in the oldest groups, who have had months and all the motivation in the world.
