Human Rights? In New Zealand? πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

It seems that some people are getting very upset about the “traffic light” legislation currently being rammed through under urgency by the government.

This is David Farrar’s take over at Kiwiblog:

Ramming massive human rights legislation through Parliament under urgency

This legislation will make some citizens, second class. They will have fewer rights than other citizens. Such a law should not be rushed through under urgency. Labour will not even be allowing a single New Zealander to submit on this law, despite the fact it will take basic rights away from several hundred thousand Kiwis. Even if you support the law, you should be appalled at this abuse of process.

Oh Pffft….

Even if you support the law”. That, right there, is the National-ACT dilemma. This was always going to be the natural result of supporting the idea of vaccine mandates and passports. It was signalled ages ago by the Prime Minister, Two classes of NewΒ Zealanders:

This really was the slippery slope and we’re not at the bottom yet.

Frankly I prefer this to a careful, slow examination of the legislation which will strangle my human rights anyway. Better to have the fast, slipshod job that this crowd will put in and enjoy exploiting the holes in it.

It is going to be funny to see if any lawyers want to have a crack at this using our Bill Of Rights, so puffed up decades ago by its author, Geoffrey Palmer. This just goes to show again what a complete and utter farce it is on more than the tiniest things. Parliamentary Supremacy trumps it and always will unless we make some radical, fundamental changes to our unwritten constitution and institutions, which we won’t because they, plus the people, are enamoured of Big Government, despite all the guff we’ve heard for forty years about Rogernomics.

Just as a sidebar, it would not hurt National and ACT to say that the first six months of their next government will be spent reversing every single piece of legislation this crowd passed on their own, plus every regulation and then firing every bureaucrat they’ve hired. Straight out demolition of some government departments, ministries and quangos wouldn’t hurt either

  2. That was an interesting post by David Farrar. Maybe the reality of what is happening is sinking in, I don’t know, it’s very difficult to imagine what might be going on in other people’s heads. I’m glad he brought up that Labour is not allowing anyone to have a say, because that’s been a big part of the problem of why it has got to this point.

I know you don’t really follow the media here, but it’s been bad, very bad. The absolute, blanket censorship has been so appalling, resulting in a propaganda type bombardment. Last week was the worst, at least this week there has been more discussion and challenging of the covid narrative.

Hosking, this morning interviewed someone from the government called Wood and he sounded like his name. Incredibly wooden, reading from a set of answers to almost every question. Afterwards, Hosking read a text to the effect of maybe a public health warning before someone like that comes on air.

A few weeks ago I decided that my dad survived the gulags, I can survive this.

    • I know you don’t really follow the media here, but it’s been bad, very bad.

Funnily enough, for the first time in two decades, I actually been looking at Newshub (I always think of them as 3 news), so actually have seen how awful they are, not just on Chinese Xi Snot but almost any story or issue you can think of. Their Rittenhouse material was just flat out propaganda for those who hate the USA, which probably does include a rather large chunk of New Zealanders so perhaps they know their market, but it doesn’t seem to be helping their bottom line.

But then there’s this comment from one “DS” over on Trotter’s blog post about the Gibraltar outbreak is positively hilarious in light of your observation:

the New Zealand media has been universal in its promotion of Let It Rip (aka “we must learn to live with the virus”), its hostility to public health lockdowns, and now its bizarre fetish with the “victims” of Vaccine Mandates. That’s the real single narrative.

All the media ever focus on is when Auckland elites will be able to enjoy overseas holidays. Not about whether the Government is appropriately protecting lives. That New Zealanders might think the Government is opening up too fast never factors into their equation.

Normally I would have asked from some evidence of all this MSM news and opinion that’s hostile to the lockdowns and victims of vaccine mandates, but I’m boycotting Trotter because he’s basically gone full authoritarian. I’m sure he’ll say something in the future about how bad Stalin was, as he has in the past, but it won’t involve looking in a mirror.

    • Oh wow, Newshub are horrendous! You must have almost gagged, lol!

Newsroom, which I didn’t even know existed, is even worse, if that’s possible, but I ignore it. Have been checking NZ Herald, Stuff and Newshub regularly, and listen to Newstalk ZB (but less now, it’s been unbearable at times).

Anyway, there have been a few things sneaking through, as the commenter you’ve quoted mentioned. I suppose it’s another perspective thing, in that if you believe what that person believes, any variation from the belief system is huge, especially in light of the coverage overall.

Something amazing happened on the NZ Herald today. Covid 19 Delta outbreak: Richard Prebble: Lockdown is New Zealand’s biggest public policy failure.

It was too late to change anything, it’s the sort of thing that needed to be talked about openly last year. But, I’m at the stage of not caring when people wake up as they do wake up.

Trotter, btw, is joining The Platform, which Sean Plunkett has been working on. Some sort of alternative media thing, will have talkback of some form. Sean is good interviewer, I’ve talked to him via talkback and he was very easy to talk to. Will check it out when it comes online.

  3. It really wouldn’t surprise me if on the 3rd December, it’s announced that all unvaxxed people will lose their job just before xmas, if they don’t comply.

    November 24, 2021 at 5:53 pm

    • If that happens, the vaxxed wont care because it’s not their problem, and the unvaxxed wont care about the vaxxed, because they will have nothing to lose.

    • Yes, unlike me a lot of those people may not actually be able to afford unemployment.

BTW, the other day you said you were unable to see any of those YouTube videos I posted and I wonder if its connected to a bug I’ve noticed over the last few months where our blog does not show your comments on the “Recent Comments” sidebar until someone else responds to you or an hour or two pass.

    • Regarding the youtube video’s, it seems to be a bug somehow associated with wordpress. I’ve also found that WordPress has a few bugs that can show up if you do something out of the ordinary. e.g display a spreadsheet, or change the font for one paragraph

  4. Farrar has lost all credibility.

He had his head handed to him recently by his own bloggers simply because of his frequent failing to read the room.

God help National if they continue to listen to his pathetic advice.

    • God help National if they continue to listen to his pathetic advice.

God help New Zealand – while tyrannical legislation creating a nightmarish dystopia is passed under urgency and without debate Her Majesties Loyal Opposition remains firmly focused on self destructing.

      I despair
