Twitter sells out to Elon Musk – Twitter Press Release.
Twitter, Inc. today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an entity wholly owned by Elon Musk, for $54.20 per share in cash in a transaction valued at approximately $44 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, Twitter will become a privately held company.
Under the terms of the agreement, Twitter stockholders will receive $54.20 in cash for each share of Twitter common stock that they own upon closing of the proposed transaction. The purchase price represents a 38% premium to Twitter’s closing stock price on April 1, 2022, which was the last trading day before Mr. Musk disclosed his approximately 9% stake in Twitter.

The whinging has nothing to do with their employment prospects but the prospect that they will no longer be able to pull bullshit like bans, account deletions, shadow-banning and other crap against posters just because they’re opposed to the ideology, political partisanship or arguments of the poster.
Of course if they’re determined to try and keep doing that as a Musk employee then their employment prospects will likely dim.

They are a racist lot publicly espousing their hatred for a successful African American.
They view themselves as some sort of evangelists, in take over situations I find it useful to view oneself as an employee who needs to add value. (at least until I can leave at a time best suited to myself)
Were I Musk I would disable the VPN which allows them all to work from home and see what difference it makes. The proverbial pink slips can follow.
(In fact I would do that with the bulk of the wellington autocrats in Wellington……)

Tom, I read your revolver news link that you posted on kiwiblog today with regards to the difficulties involved in returning twitter to a free speech platform. It was a sobering read that I can see playing out in the way described. I hope Musk has a plan, and I hope he is on the side of good.

Hopefully, yes. Just watched the editor of Revolver News talking about the piece with Steve Bannon (whom I only started watching recently!) He expects the opposition to turning Twitter into a free speech platform to be dialed up to 11 if Musk tries to implement full free speech.
