Mrs Veteran has just returned from pilates … shaken by this story. Her friend even more so … returning from Kerikeri on SH 11 at 8.00 pm her car was tailgated in the 80k zone between Puketona Junction and Haruru Falls. Just short of Watea (upmarket housing development) the car roared passed and then stopped in the middle of the road with both the left and right hand side doors open … a man and a woman got out and started waving their arms … a third male then got out from the back holding something. She decided discretion was the better part of valor and maneuvered her car around them continuing on to Paihia. Next minute a bang and a bullet hole in her boot.

The police have been informed and apparently have reviewed CCTV footage from the cameras at the entrance to Watea but the images are inconclusive. I guess (in police parlance) … inquiries are continuing.

So there it is … in little old (once safe) Paihia on a busy state highway. A near shooting fatality of someone going about their lawful business. What to look forward to … when is this going to stop? And all this per courtesy of a government soft on crime. and softer on criminals

  1. Thank christ they’re okay – and a smart decision not to stop. This is almost beyond belief, but I made reference the other day to the steady increase in assaults and street robberies that’s happening in our (formerly) quiet part of Auckland.. So much for this sort of thing being confined to gang warfare.

So far most people have been lucky to avoid these bullets, but it’s just a matter of the odds plus time.

  2. And all the media can do is invent lies to bag Luxon. Pathetic. They know their gravy train is over when he is elected.

    • Haha Adolf…”they know their gravy train is over..”

National always believe that the media will be kind to them if they are kind to the media…its a delusion they persist with.

      Luxon’s choices are

      Do Nothing
Ask for the money back politely
Demand the money back in 3 years with penalties
      Top them up with more

      • errrrrrr … National (and ACT) have never acted in the belief that the media owe them a favour .. quite the opposite. When in government National faces both the elected opposition (Labour) and the non-elected media from word go. Always has been, always will be … Labour not so much.

  3. Pleased to hear they are okay Vet.

This is an action replay (almost) of what happened to two ladies in their 80’s a few months ago in Havelock North. The HN ladies made the mistake of stopping and were assaulted and robbed – fortunately no guns involved and no really serious injuries. I actually spoke to one of those two HN ladies a couple of weeks ago and she was still getting over the whole thing – I got the impression talking about it, even to a stranger, helped her..

The HN incident was in daylight – not sure of the time.

  4. Police have concentrated their efforts on Morewa and Kawakawa based on social housing clusters

Meanwhile National Considers its new social housing policy for Housing NZ or whatever the Maori name is:

All social housing in middle class areas and above to be sold, includes new and existing
Unless good behavior by the adults and children can be demonstrated..
All residents of these houses to be relocated to new specialist built concrete apartments of no more than 3 stories
All new social housing to be built in lower middle class and poorer suburbs.
Anti social behavior by them or their under age children (stealing cars) will result in a immediate relocation to other suburbs and confiscation of cars and assets, and the proceeds to used to compensate their victims.

    Actions have consequences.

There, nucleus of a new social contract policy for National called “Fuck them we tried the neo liberal soft cock approach and it hasnt worked”

    • You’re a hard man but contained within your rant there are gems which deserve to see sunlight particularly he ‘good tenancy’ requirement for anyone living in rental accommodation (be it public or private housing)..

      • NZ needs some hard men to replace the soft cocks in parliament, the police and the judiciary/

        July 1, 2022 at 4:22 pm

    • Oh Shucks, Oh gee wizz, Vet…. Im touched.

If you like my housing policy you will love my reform of the judiciary package, and reform of youth crime.

Based on the keep it simple theory

And all based on carrot and stick approach, but because these people, the recipients of my policy dont have an education and dont know what carrots are because they dont eat them ,the policy bill boards will be

“You fuck us , we fuck you bigger”

I reckon they will look fantastic as you drive into and out of Kawakawa and Morewa.

Of course if we paint them red, put Jacinda’s face on them and National’s logo top right they can be used as Election Billboards too

  5. Glad to hear they are OK. Outraged it even happens in NZ. On the other hand 6 police have time to intimidate the completely peaceful crowd celebrating/comiserating in an upmarket Hamilton pub after the MAB’s Ireland game. And to arrest someone on a completely made up pretence. I guess it is easier to intimidate and arrest rugby followers and anti mandate protestors than to go after genuine crims.

    • It’s health and safety you know. They have to fill in a form. Takes far too long with real criminals. The innocent they can just say ‘No risk of harm’? Tick that, ok boys (and girls) we can go and arrest them all for watching a lot of men playing with their odd shaped balls. Disgusting I call it.’

  6. So sorry to hear of your lovely wife’s experience. It’s so sad to see what is happening to our lovely town.
    Socialists destroy everything they touch.

    • OC … ‘our lovely town’ … didn’t realise you resided here in what is/was God’s little acre. Perhaps we could break bread/share a wine someday …

      • That would be cool a bit busy the next couple of week but fine after that. I see from your writings we agree on most things except the mandates and I’m more cynical about what National would do.
Meet at Jimmy Jacks of course, my shout. Bring a membership form It’s about time I got involved instead of just moaning about things from the sideline.

  7. Very bad indeed. And a lucky escape.

It does seem the criminals now do whatever they want without any particular concern for the consequences. Little follow up by the police. Even if they are caught and convicted, it is probably no more than a fine and a bit of community work. No doubt not enforced. A fine paid at $5.00 per week, if at all.

That is the message out there. Do what you want with little fear of the consequences, since they won’t be much anyway.

Probably a criminal record actually improves ones chances on the Kianga Ora waiting list. It increases the number of points by being categorised as “marginalised”.

  8. Were the perps members of our darker brethren looking for membership of the Mob?

  9. That is just awful Vet I hope Memsab is OK.
c1990 Swmbo and self made a concerted three week tour through the far north to investigate the wonderful climate and resources we had heard about for a retirement Option. We went well off the usual tracks and at the end decided it was not for us, sure the climate , the people we met and the food and fishing all made the star grade but what Harawira and Co are indulging in was clearly evident in too many places of interest. Russell, Paihia, Tutukaka and other places did appeal but they seemed only conclaves amidst potential dangers.
Ten years on we scuttled back to the Village of The Damned and its environs now after Last Saturday afternoon just up SH One, where the hell is safe any more?
My very best to Mrs Veteran, regards M.
