No Minister

Croaking Cassandra always worth a Visit and Yesterday was another notable bit of analysis that those crusty old Journos, you remember the ones whose regular opinions never revealed the Political hue of the writer but did not ever hold back when that opinion was somewhat elevated in mood from a serious pathway to disaster, encountered. Yesterday Michael Riddell was at his informative best in a brief essay on the current Board of The NZ Reserve Bank.

This is the one institution that some would like to consider to be the handbrake of choice for a semblance of advice to Government and actions totally independent of influence from a Government of the day, to hopefully ensure the financial stability of NZ Inc if a dummy became Minfin and a rush to the cliff began.
Things have become worrying sufficiently with the appointment of Adrian Orr as Governor of the Banks Bank, only heightened when in a speech to fellow Bankers attending an international forum Orr went off the reservation in pursuit of Tangata Whenua recognition that saw as a common response, eye rolling and sudden device interest from the audience.
Unless there has been a massive change in economic theory that has delivered decades of growth and an absence of recessions to match the Biggy that began in New York on September 4th 1929 and continued its disastrous grip on the world until WW2 became the catalyst for ending it ten years later that became The Great Depression and just as its earlier companion of history The Great War of 1914/18, there was precious little Great about either. World economies back then in the Thirties shrank by around 15 % compared to the retraction later in economic matters, labeled The Global Financial Crisis that Key,English and Co were left to cleanup of a measly 1% contraction in the first decade of the new millenium, I must have missed it.

Reading Riddells writing gives one only a growing unease that what many are describing as students running an economy is far worse with diversity, gender, and other garbage being further threats to an overt politicisation of the bankers bank.

If sleeplessness is a current affliction perhaps pass it by as it is a quite troubling revealing of matters you will never encounter from current repeaters.

  1. I see about 80% of the RBNZ directors are flag waving members of our darker brethren. Hardly representative of the populace.

Is anyone missing Dr Brash yet? He could speak English!
