No Minister

Had to do a bit of driving yesterday and on the news there was a report from one of the media luvlies accompanying the PM on her latest round the world junket gushing on her supposed rock star status in every country she visited. At the same time Moody’s were reporting that NZ Business Confidence had reached negative 62.6 in June. Put that alongside ….

Inflation at record highs and projected to rise further

The OCR on the rise and likely to increase

New Zealand drops to 31st in the World Competitiveness Ranking

Reported shootings nearly every day

Our best and brightest fleeing the country

Our reputation as a corruption free country under threat

Government spending out of control

A continued drop in educational standards with truancy at record levels

A ‘rubber stamp’ parliament

All this and you can fairly ask just why St Jacinda is to be lorded as some sort of rock star on the world stage. I grant you she has a decent set of chompers and does ‘concerned’ rather well but where it really matters ????????

  1. Because “journalists” these days no longer just report the news. They editorialise it with their own viewpoint and their viewpoint is that of someone fresh out of university and all the baggage of a left wing brainwashing.

Once they grow a bit older they usually grow up, wise up and change jobs for something higher paying and business friendly in the PR and publicity industries. Those that don’t grow up and wise up remain as bitter old lefty whiners like Simon Wilson, Brian Rudman and their ilk.

  2. It’s obviously because she’s one of them.
    They look after their own.
As an aside suffering the latest flu. It’s way more severe to the power of 10 than the covid I had a couple of months ago. Take all precautions to try and avoid.

  3. … and to be expected. All. Part. Of. The. Plan.

Controlled demolition of our country, with too few awake to stop it. Probably too late, anyway.

    • It’s never too late … you can’t wind the clock back but you can reset it.

      • … you can’t wind the clock back but you can reset it.

You can’t move Overton WIndow back but you can freeze it in place for a few years:

The Overton window is an approach to identifying the ideas that define the spectrum of acceptability of governmental policies. Politicians can only act within the acceptable range. Shifting the Overton window involves proponents of policies outside the window persuading the public to expand the window. Proponents of current policies, or similar ones within the window, seek to convince people that policies outside it should be deemed unacceptable.

According to Lehman, who coined the term, “The most common misconception is that lawmakers themselves are in the business of shifting the Overton window. That is absolutely false. Lawmakers are actually in the business of detecting where the window is, and then moving to be in accordance with it.”

Sounds perfect for National. Labour, the Greens and the Maori Party all believe in shifting the window, and make sure they have plenty of well-funded allies outside it, and outside the world of lawmakers, to make it happen.

  4. There is a progression in the minds of men: first the unthinkable becomes thinkable, and then it becomes an orthodoxy whose truth seems so obvious that no one remembers that anyone ever thought differently.

    Theodore Dalrymple

Not that any of this is relevant to NZ anyway, the National Party doesn’t “do” culture wars. The woke progressive left forces a cultural shift and the Nat’s try and tag along – as evidenced by pitiful sight of Chris Bishop cavorting in the street with a gaggle of transvestites during a “”pride” rally a few years ago.

    • You contradict yourself by quoting Dalrymple and then attacking Bishop … society evolves. Were that not to be the case we would still be hanging people. You say that National doesn’t do culture wars … better phased … National doesn’t do identity politics … unlike Labour Got a problem with that?

  5. The Dalrymple quote was from his essay on the the current trend to legalize drugs, and how the institutional Left uses its political capital to drive / force cultural shifts.
