No Minister

“The New Zealand Police are non political and operationally removed from their minister’s control or influence”, I do not think so

I firmly believe that that myth is further demolished with each day that passes.
Overt threats from Commissioner when the first lockdown was implemented that non compliance would be met with a police response?
The ending of a peaceful protest on Parliament grounds that was nothing resembling other occupation of public lands, Shelly Bay, Ihumatao protest, with serious police assaults following unprecedented actions at the behest of The Speaker had failed.
The using of a false stolen car excuse to attempt to discover some illegality of two women entering Northland entirely lawfully during a lock down, using security footage.

Then yesterday news that the charges against anti mandate protester Leighton Baker were to be dropped with no further action following his arrest and removal from the parliament grounds debacle prior to the climactic ending on March second , seven months ago.

Seven months to decide to drop charges that many might have wished to have actually reached a defended hearing. where skilful examination of crown evidence could have been very revealing for certain, something seriously awry ?

  1. The recriminations and regrets are yet to begin. Virtually all of the cases can’t be brought to court, least it shine light on the actions of the police.
There is no shortage of video footage of the wellington protest, which shows the calibre and integrity of the people there.
As for those who would quote ‘fire & fury’ as evidence from the comfort of their armchair, I have a bridge to sell them.

  2. I cant post it here, but I still have a photo of a police officer at the Wellington protest dragging a NZ flag on the ground as he walks away. (disrespecting the flag)

  3. I believe it’s likely that charges are used as a political weapon to take influential people out of action for a while. That would definitely be the case with Leighton Baker, and I think the same tactic is being employed against the Counterspin couple.
