Sweden was right
It turns out all the panic mongers were wrong. Lockdowns etc worked worse than the Swedish approach, even without taking into account all the long term damage to life expectancy, educational outcomes, economic prosperity that the authoritarian states incurred.
As of reporting date June 19th 2022, of all the countries analysed by the OECD, Sweden has the lowest overall cumulative excess deaths tally.

And New Zealand took all that pain for long term damage rather than gain.

Yep its a crying shame.
I looked at the stats very, very early on, and it was there to see as plain as daylight, and I only have Stage 1 maths, and stage 3 stats.
It was an interesting period for me, I pretended to be a Jew, without , the yellow star, and was persecuted from the aeroclub, down through good friends etc, but I was lucky..I was the boss at work!. For my employees I asked no one their vaccination status, i enforced none of “their ” tyrannical rules, and can hold my head high. I am personally proud of what I achieved.
It is simply a reflection of how far NZ has fallen. Poorly educated , poorly led, relying on sports to keep the masses entertained.
It was a golden opportunity for an opposition party National and Act, but squandered in mediocity and fear.

I think those deaths-per-million are wrong, in that they may be calculated on the basis of “died from Covid” rather than the original “died with Covid”, and while I always wanted the former, the fact is I also want these people to be held to the standard they insisted upon until the death totals became inconvenient to their propaganda.
Worldometer continues to count deaths using the original standard so that an apples-to-apples comparison can be made across time and nations, and their data (click on the Oceania tab) has as follows:
Deaths – New Zealand (3,144), Australia (15,792)
Deaths per million – New Zealand (642). Australia (606)
We’re now somewhat over 2000 deaths using the “new” counting basis.

Some blasts from the past in late 2020:
2,900 Covid deaths. Imagine that. And as epidemiologists have noted, herd immunity is where you always end up anyway, it’s just a question of whether you get there by natural infection or by that plus vaccination – not that these vaccines actually provided immunity in the end.
