There’s been significant comments about morals lately and how the lack of these is affecting society.
I’m struggling with that concept so have noted some of them.
Morals in civilised society.
You may not kill anyone – except if it is someone outside your group who the group disagrees with (such as those poor Russians in the blown up tanks in Ukraine), or someone not yet born or (increasingly) someone getting too old or too sick.
You must respect the traditional family, although the “traditional family” doesn’t and hasn’t ever really existed except in rare cases. In most cases the “family” split up very quickly with children going to pay debt or simply because the family couldn’t support them and until very recently the old died before middle-age..
Sex should be only for procreation but, in fact, that has never been the case even when Ringo Starr was a caveman.
Sexual partnerships should be between a man and a woman – despite different partnerships being present throughout history even if we disclude Caligua and his horse.
Free speech and honesty must be encouraged except where that free speech carries with it responsibility , then it must be legislated against – and of course when the question asked is “Does my bum look big in this?”.
Really? Not the world I grew up in through the 1970’s and not the one my parents grew up in the 1920’s.

Hence the problem with what parents accidentally discovered during the lockdowns about what their kids were being taught via Zoom classes – and clearly had been taught for some time in classrooms:

I would have thought it was rather prudent of the Ukranian to blow up the Russian tank, knowing full well that if you don’t the Russians in the tank will kill you. I guess maybe you share Andrei’s view that it’s ok for Russians to kill Ukranians but not the other way around.
That said the rest of what you said was spot on.
OC, it is the hypocrisy of those cheering on the killing of the Russians while preaching the “thou shall not kill” line I comment on.
I’m selfish. To be honest as long as those killed are not my children or friends I don’t really give a fuck.
Sane people regret the killing of Russian cannon fodder as a sad but unavoidable consequence of Putin’s criminal “war”.
Totally agree JohnO it’s very sad that they die because of warmongering despot Putin.
But are the Ukrainians just going to bend over and take what the Russians offer?

Not really, having skimmed through two versions of movies and a book reference to the Valkirie project to top off Adf Hitler. The top-off is basic enough for a group recognising the action is also suicidal. The much harder bit is having a replacement management team which is both competent and able to be rapidly recognised as the new and much better authority by the masses and the old bureaucracy. Preferably within a couple of hours.
Which is partly demonstrated by the performance at the US Capitol a year or so ago.
I guess that is why we still put some trust in an election process.
The alternatives are mostly very messy, hugely expensive, and eventually slower than a three-year election cycle. I’m guessing that the enduring failing of right-wingers is that they recognise the mess, expense, and slowness; and just keep their heads down and keep hoping for better times. i.e. are not the suicidal types.
Stoicism:
Lol -sad old men sniping at that fact that Russia is lead by a real man of high intellect and not a overblown scatty headed schoolgirl like NZ is and displaying both their insecurity and jealousy in the process.
