Carbon offsets are a scam. But paraphrasing a saying from the days of the USSR: The people pushing carbon offsets know they’re a scam. We normies know they’re a scam. And the people pushing the offsets know that we know they’re a scam. But the scam persists. Why?

Because without carbon offsets, jet-setting elites, Remuera & Mt Albert Tractor drivers and woke corporations couldn’t make the claim that they are green or “carbon neutral.” The really cool part of the scam is that the “offset” is payment for native bush that isn’t cleared in a given year. So if I own 100Ha of bush and plan to clear 10Ha this year, I can sell a “carbon offset” for the 90Ha of land I wasn’t going to clear anyway. After I clear the 10 hectares, the assholes who paid me get to claim that they somehow offset their own carbon production.

Although it’s nice to see at least some Leftists refusing to play this BS game any longer – even though the BS game is a direct result of the clash between foot-stamping, crying Thunbergist demands of How Dare You – and the commercial reality of meeting the demands of billions of ordinary people, including wealthy people like her family.

Anyway, since I’ve got about 17Ha of virgin native bush that is (currently) untouched – and not earning me any money, I want in on all these indulgences income streams.

As a result it is with great pride and excitement that I am announcing the formation of the Tom Hunter Carbon Offset Company, Ltd and that I am now accepting payments.

For a fee commensurate with your gullibility commitment to carbon neutrality, I will deem you or your organisation to be “carbon neutral” for all the native bush I didn’t cut down in a given year. Give me the money and the Totaras and Rimus will be safe.

Even if/when I develop the land, most of it will not be “deforested” so I should be able to keep this scam Green Initiative going for many years.
