The Speaker has sent the Minister of Education to the privileges Committee over the total cluster when Erica Stanford tied her up and applied a blowtorch over attendance disasters, back in February for misinforming the House over the timing of figures release.
It is to all intents and purposes an open and shut boom lowering and the hapless Tinetti would in normal times be in serious trouble.
Of course. with a substantial majority and the Melons on a slippery slope towards 5% that one vote could be crucial.
The Privileges Committee chair David Parker with party support from Grant Robertson, Poto Williams??, and Tangi Utikere (who) Act leader David Seymour, Vice Chair Michael Woodhouse and Nat campaign manager Chris Bishop, leaves good old Golly Gloriz of the Melons in the center of a potential mini tornado.
This will be entirely predictable that Tinetti will escape but how that is achieved in the glare of publicity will be another assault on the Popcorn stocks. It could be that the pile under the carpet of the Ninth floor will need some restacking as there is serious potential for embarrassing shuffling of the already stacked deck.
Hence the reference to the bus timetable, Tinetti is entirely expendable and the cluster that the education portfolio is currently in the midst of, maybe the Janitor could be seconded as Minister Pro Tem, even better perhaps wā pro.
I wonder how the late unlamented Trev the Muss would have handled what is another serious conflict of interest for a party that has trampled all over such little contretemps with not so much as a hiccup.
Next weeks fish and chips wrapping methinks.
Mallard would never, ever consider sending any Labour Minister before the Privileges Committee – particularly a female one.
His reputation suggests he would have other ways.
