Lifted directly from DPF’s post this morning on the little matter of our economy shitting itself – complete with this terrifying graph.
It’s no wonder that we’re getting warnings from the IMF and foreign private sector financial outfits.

However, I’ll take this opportunity to have some fun around the issue of what Labour has done to the NZ economy by using some modified quotes from the great movie from which DPF got this quote and title.
Grant has just killed himself, Chris and Michael in the 2023 election simulator.
Chris Hipkins: So what happened?
Grant Robertson: We came in too far left. We’re dead.
Michael Woods: No shit.
Or perhaps the view from Mission Control?
Chris Hipkins: Grant, is this an instrumentation problem, or are we looking at real power loss here?
Grant Robertson: It’s reading a quadruple failure – that can’t happen! It’s got to be instrumentation.
Chris and Grant are trying to regain control of the Labour Party module:
Chris Hipkins: We’re all out of whack. We try to pitch to centre but we yaw to the left. Why can’t I null this out?
Grant Robertson: She wasn’t designed to fly attached like this. Our center of gravity are all those Labour MP’s we gained in 2020.
Chris Hipkins: It’s like flying with a dead elephant on our back.
Back in Mission Control.
Chris Hipkins: This could be the worst disaster Labour’s ever faced.
Grant Roberston: With all due respect, sir, I believe this is gonna be our finest hour. (winks at Michael)
Chris Hipkins: Failure is not an option!
Andrew is making his cabinet contribution:
Andrew Little: All right, we’re not doing this, gentlemen. We are NOT going to do this. We’re not going to go bouncing off the walls for ten minutes, ’cause we’re just going to end up back here with the same problems! Try to figure out how to stay alive!
Planning for the future:
Chris Hipkins: [pointing to a large “NO” note on the control panel] What is that?
Michael Woods: Oh, I was getting a little punchy and I didn’t want to cut the LEM loose with you guys still in it.
Chris Hipkins: That’s good thinking.
Michael smiles.
