I have formed the conclusion that we cannot trust the National Party to responsibly uphold New Zealand’s interests when it comes to dealing with the Communist Party of China. This is a great pity, because our two major parties and all minor parties currently in Parliament are all only too happy to deal with the Communist dictatorship in China, whether that be economically, socially, culturally or militarily

Look at this example from May this year – Sir David Carter (former Speaker of the House and former National Party Board member) attended the “China-Pacific People-to-People Friendship Forum” hosted in Fuzhou. He attended in his capacity as Patron of the New Zealand – China Friendship Society, a key ‘United Front’ organisation. That is to say, it is a mouthpiece for Communist Chinese propoganda, as Professor Anne-Marie Brady of Canterbury University wrote in her ‘Magic Weapons’ 2017 booklet outlining communist Chinese influence operations:

[T]he New Zealand-China Friendship Society (NZCFS)… went into decline from the 1980s on, and struggled to retain membership. Now thanks to significant support from both the PRC and the New Zealand government, a re-invigorated NZCFA is again promoting China’s interests, but this time it is an economic agenda – One Belt, One Road.

That’s the Belt and Road Initiative that Simon Bridges signed NZ up to when he was Minister of Transport. It’s the initiative that locks in Chinese influence and even outright ownership in key economic infrastructure around the world, establishing debt traps in many countries who now totally depend on Chinese ‘aid’ to maintain their infrastructure.

Here’s Sir David Carter delivering a speech at this CPC propaganda festival, where he talked about how much he admired the Chinese economic achievements of the past 75 years:

In my lifetime, this is the most amazing economic take-off in the history of human civilization… China has become a superpower, and the status of a great power will continue to improve in the next 75 years.

This is unfortunate to say the least. Sir John Key is a like-minded hyperstooge of the CPC, because to him, it’s all about the economy. Never mind the bullying, genocide, and naked aggression China has shown in the last several years. The National Party had a former (or was that current?) Chinese Intelligence Agent as an MP. (So did Labour, but this post is not about them).

I can tell you as a fact that it is impossible to get debate at the highest levels of the National Party about Chinese malignant influence in our region and our own country. The Lower North Island conference passed a resolution asking for Defence Spending to be raised to 2%. It was vetoed from being debated at the National Conference because “we don’t want to upset China”.

I can’t support a party that puts the Communist Party of China ahead of New Zealand. It should be illegal to support any ‘United Front’ organisations, either here or abroad. Yet here is Sir David Carter doing Xi Jinping’s bidding. And he’s not the only very senior National Party figure doing so.
