Like almost every other Democrat Party dominated city in the USA, Chicago has suffered over the last few years from increasing rates of many crimes, particularly shop-lifting and violent crime.

This is down to three key factors.

First, a State Attorney office who regularly drop charges against people arrested, even on serious crimes involving violence and guns.

Second, a city council and state government that have changed the law in many areas that allows criminals freedom to commit crimes. For example shoplifting isn’t even an arrest event in the city if the value of the stolen goods is less than $950 (See also San Francisco and other Democrat cities). And there’s now a no-cash bail which means many people arrested are out on the street the next morning or even the same day.

Third, a serious loss of manpower in the Chicago Police Force (CPD) as a result of the Burn Loot Murder/Antifa effort to Defund The Police that was all the rage in 2020 and beyond, because of all that systemic racism that exists in Democrat-controlled cities.

But at least on that last factor there is some hope, thanks to an act that was just signed into Illinois law:

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) has signed into law a plan that allows foreign nationals with work permits, some of whom are illegal aliens, to become police officers in the sanctuary state.

Democrat legislators, with a supermajority in the Illinois House and Senate, passed legislation in June that opens law enforcement jobs to thousands of illegal aliens enrolled in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program as well as thousands of other foreign nationals with work permits from the federal government.

This is such an extraordinary move I’m not sure if anybody has analysed it for its key feature: this means that illegal aliens working as cops in Illinois will be able to arrest US citizens.

Is that even legal in the US Constitution? I guess it will take a few years to work through the system, first with illegal aliens hired as cops, followed by them making arrests, followed by test cases that will wind their way through the system all the way to the Supreme Court. I’m damned sure I’d challenge the system were I arrested by an illegal alien working as a Chicago cop. It’s yet another effort by the Democrat Party to declare that US citizenship is meaningless, which is part of breaking down the entire country. That article notes that California has also done this, because of course.

Second City Cop has this comment:

We don’t recall that citizenship was a requirement for policing, just a Green Card. We’re pretty sure we trained and served with a number of immigrants from assorted countries over the years. Can someone refresh our memories?

Heh. In the 1990’s I happened to run across a mutual friend of my friends who was a Chicago Cop – and an illegal immigrant from Eastern Europe. Of course in her case she’d landed in the USA sometime back in the 1970’s as a child but for some strange reason had never even got a Green Card, let alone citizenship. As with many things in the USA – like voting – once you’ve got your Social Security Number and card you’re golden. The lady in question retired a few years ago but with pensions and other things in mind, has been keeping on the down low. Given all of the above she needn’t worry.

And in other news of illegal immigrants in Chicago, it seems that the objections to them by local African Americans – first noted a couple of months ago – has grown more intense:

Distraught residents told city officials in attendance that the migrants’ behavior made them feel unsafe. “I would ask you all to go out there — go out there at night, in the middle of the night — and see what goes on,” one emotional resident said. Another woman vented, “They disrespect us, they rob us, they harass us.”

One local man threatened that if they didn’t address the issue, neighbors would take it into their own hands. “Let me say this — they’ve got one more time to deal with it, because otherwise, next time they deal with it, they’re going to deal with it from the streets. We’re going to take over. Nobody is going to be able to stop us from what we’re going to do to them.”

Bloody violent xenophobes. It’s outrageous. Of course they all voted Democrat and will again at the next election, as they have for eighty years.
