Federal revenue has historically averaged 17.4 percent of GDP for the past eighty years, no matter what the tax rates have been.

Meantime, federal government spending has increased from 20 percent of GDP in 2015 to approximately 25 percent now. You’ll recall the mass poverty, starvation, and homelessness that the USA was suffering from in 2015, so you can understand why Biden and the Democrats are so determined in refusing to cut spending. The GOP is more squishy about it, saying that they’d like to reduce spending but gosh darnit, they just can’t because they’ll lose votes

Things are just as bad on the lower levels of states and cities.

This is all going to get worse of course, starting with all that spending…

… and ending with unpayable debt and annual interest bills that crush discretionary spending on things like defending the country.
