I consider Rizwan was done a “Dud”.
The Wag who said Third Umpire Richard Illingworth should have been left locked in the elevator was perhaps dead right.
On field Ump Michael Gough had given not out, if the Batsman gets benefit of the doubt then Illingworth did a Tom Foley and after several replays, if the same as viewers were accessing, there was more than enough doubt not to overturn Gough.
Now to Pat Cummins dismissal?
Simon Taufel gives the apparent one frame between a clear gap between bat and ball and the snikko spike that Illingworth gave Cummins out on as the differing speeds of light (or sight) and sound (snikko),
However Mr Taufel there had been no front on clear evidence of ball and bat contact, there was zero hot spot and a stump microphone is not exclusive evidence of bat ball contact. should two of three negatives have seen Cummins not out.
Then there is the unknown as to how many more runs Cummins might have contributed to the Australian lead and could Rizwan have reduced the final deficit to have made it tighter.
It was an enthralling test match, with a possible winner alternating several times over the four days.
Technology might need some reviews though.
Of course had Shafique held onto Marsh’s nick at 20 it might have been all over quick smart
Good summary there GD.
Rizwan looked very hard done by but, I have not seen the Cummins one.
One thing though you missed – history shows that the 50/50 calls almost always go Australia’s way in tests played at home. Neutral umpires have made no difference in that respect.
True that PDM, but at least the days of Whitney hit back pad below the kneeroll in front of middle being given not out by some odious Aussie Umpire are no more. That was one of the biggest thefts of a game I have ever seen in my life, Danny Morrison and company dudded that day at the MCG
