So says Daniel Greenfield at Frontpage magazine:

Despite the impression created by CHAZ or the BLM riots, the end goal is not lawless anarchy, but a new kind of police state which merges generous welfare and street lawlessness with relentless prosecution of speech and other political offenses. Such systems already exist to varying degrees in Europe where ordinary citizens often have more cause to fear, for example, London’s Met police than criminals do. This new era of law enforcement officers has already begun in this country at the very top, but will take some time to make its way to street level.

He argues that it is a new type of Police State, based upon modern Leftist ideas about what “law” actually means. The law should not “punch down” on criminals but “punch up” to those in power – especially the bourgeoisie.

Admittedly there is a small group called the Left-Realists, who have appeared in the last forty years in reaction to the idea that the Right had the crime issue all to themselves. The Left-Realists still agree about root causes of crime (poverty) but that policing and prisons are still needed because it’s the working class that suffers from crime the most. Needless to say these people don’t seem to have won the argument on their side.

Actually the idea that criminals are the real victims is not new at all, going at least as far back as the infamous philosopher Rousseau. What’s new here is that clearly only some of the ruling class are going to be “punched up” and that will be those with non-Left-Wing ideas and speech.

Greenfield appears not to be aware of it but another term has been coined to describe this situation: Anarcho-Tyranny:

“Anarcho-tyranny” refers to armed dictatorship without rule of law, or a Hegelian synthesis when the state tyrannically or oppressively regulates citizens’ lives yet is unable or unwilling to enforce fundamental protective law.

When you look at Banana Republic characters like the New York Attorney General gleefully updating her X-Twitter account each day with the additional interest being added to Trump’s fines in the NY property fraud case, all while NYC is being hit by violent criminals who go free on her bail rules and have charges dropped or minimised, anarcho-tyranny is the perfect description.
