I can’t even

AYFKM? I don’t have a degree in economics but I did Finance as a sub-major so we did cover bonds and other methods of borrowing by the private and public sector – and having watched this I’m pretty sure I could do Jared Bernstein’s job.

This feels like a follow-up to GD’s post on the local shit fight between a KC and the dean of AUT. But keeping it local, it could also be this story about Chris Hipkins and $450 million blowout for combining Marlborough Girls and Boys Colleges, or it could be the story of David Clark’s fantastic fuckup on the Credit contracts and Consumer Finance Act (“where the politically inept meets the practically stupid) or it could be Auckland Harbour Bridge bike lanes failure or the Auckland Light Rail Fiasco or Lets Get Wellington Moving or Minister Grant “Fuck-It-It’s-Only-Money” Robertson’s approach to the NZ economy in general or…

You don’t have to go too far back in time to find left-wing politicians who knew what they were doing in the economy, even if you disagreed with what they did, or at least some of it. Locally, Michael Cullen springs to mind. In America, Bill Clinton’s Secretary of the Treasury, Larry Summers. Hell, even Blair’s Chancellor of the Exchequer , Gordon Brown.

But even other Lefty Ministers and Secretaries knew their stuff as well as having common sense and got things done: think of people in our First Labour Government like Fraser, Semple and Nash.

When did the Left-wingers in politics get this stupid and useless?

And will it improve in the future?
