AYFKM?
The USA caused a huge, historic shock in the T20 World Cup with a thrilling Super Over win over Pakistan in Texas. The game went to the extra over after both sides made 159 in their 20 overs at Grand Prairie Stadium, with tournament co-hosts and debutants USA scoring 14 in the final over to tie Pakistan’s total.
Well, this will certainly give a boost to the Major League Cricket outfit in the USA.
The following X-comment is a little mean.
But only a little.
Okay, so it’s T20 cricket but still, this is pretty incredible. Pakistan was in the final last time.
I knew all those Indian immigrants I worked with in Chicago in the early 1990’s would make an impact on more than just the IT industry, especially via their kids:
“It’s a big achievement, beating Pakistan while playing (them) for the first time,” U.S. captain Monank Patel said. “We used the conditions well … kept them to 160, which was chaseable.”
…
Nitish Kumar close to the boundary and USA bowler Saurabh Netravalkar restricted them to 13 for one.
…
Batting first in the Super Over, the USA then ramped up the pressure on their opponents by making 18 for one, with Aaron Jones on 11 before being run out and seven runs coming via extras.
So there was at least one American in the American squad!!! 😂😂😂😂
I wondered if the US cricket team might level up once Corey Anderson qualified for them. And maybe he’s boosted morale, but the irony is that they’ve barely needed him much. He had one great knock against Bangladesh, but it’s mostly been Aaron Jones and the top order kicking butt. His knock the other day against Canada was one of the best T20 innings I’ve seen by anyone, even if you take into account the absolute pies he was being bowled.
There is a ton of cricketers in the US, probably more than in New Zealand. It’s a delightful surprise to see them performing at this level, but perhaps it should not be, given the strength in numbers available.
Heh!
The one concern I have is Pakistan’s history of connections with betting outfits!
Whoa Laddy, back the boat up a bit!
Most of you are intelligent people who understand that unusual results often happen in men’s sport (unlike, say, gymnastics where a television commentator stated once that a young lady wouldn’t get a deserved high mark because she was from the wrong country).
A one off result is just that.
Add the fact that T20 cricket has about the same relationship to real cricket as softball has to baseball.
I was told some time ago that the significant numbers of immigrants to USA from the sub-Continent was making the game far more popular in places other than Hollywood (where it has tradition) and, hopefully, for cricket, the result may start a trend.
I doubt it though, both India and America tend to be countries that most team sport (as opposed to games) is played by those not yet working for a living – unlike NZ, Pom-land, Ockerville etc. where competitive sport often carries on into senility (particularly with referees).

I am with you on that one Tinman.
I call it `hit and giggle’ cricket and refuse to watch it because it is not proper cricket.
