Before yesterday.
When I read his post over at the Bassett, Brash and Hyde Blog.
Link to his lengthy post is at the end of this introduction and it is a commentary well worth reading. In fact I would go so far as to say – if only more Maori like Haimona Gray would speak up New Zealand would be a much better place as far as Race Relations are concerned..
Gray’s Linked in profile includes this:
`I am an experienced and well-rounded communications specialist who has worked at senior levels across the public service, NGO, and Maori business sector’.
So he has been around the traps for a while, including working for John Tamahere at Waipareira Trust.
Google him and I am sure you will find other interesting information – yet he seems to be unknown or is it just me that has missed him until now.
Link to his BBH post follows – I strongly urge you to read it and take note of the heading:
HAIMONA GRAY: The ‘Car-koi’ And Partisan Activation

:
I hadn’t heard of him before reading an article of his that I posted about in Two Essays, Two Cutures, One Threat, last week.
His article was posted on his substack account, It’ll End In Tears, Just Not Theirs, which I also recommend to readers.
Ya beat me to it Tom!
Heh. Your other comment has the same timestamp but was hung up in the “Pending” queue because it had two URL links, whereas the system is wary of more than one, even for regular commentators like yourself.
I’ll be interested to see if the system learns from this by allowing a future 2-link (or more) comment from you to go straight to publish.
He has been on the #nzpols hash tag grouping on Twitter for a while.
His substack has the Car Koi post but also an earlier one on JT and his empire:

He has also written a thoughtful post on child uplift/section 7AA, from the perspective of someone who has a foot in both camps Maori and Non Maori:

We should just call some of these Maoritanga folk Star-Bellied Sneetches. Most of them are descended from the very colonizers they complain about. I don’t whine about what my English ancestors did to my Scottish ancestors, and it’s equally ludicrous that they take their 25% or less Polynesian genetics and use it to make themselves the Special People.
Any genuine grievance present is a matter of property rights, and property rights only – a colour blind concept. Prove you own oxygen molecules in court, and they’re yours. Likewise, if you want to preserve Maori culture and language, that’s all you. Don’t involve my tax dollars in that project.
People should stand up to these arseholes.
He’s like a Maori Karl du Fresne.
And he’ll soon be excommunicated as the “wrong kind of Maori” as Chhour and Seymour have.
And one other thing’s for sure: MSM outlets such as One News will never mention him or his work.
