Every election campaign has its ups and downs, and what’s needed during both is a steady hand. Panic during a down-period is a sign that things were never good in the first place.
And apparently there is panic inside the Biden campaign, even though it’s only been a few days and there have been no solid, extensive polls yet showing them taking a hit from his godawful debate last Thursday, merely snap polls (although those were admittedly not good for Biden):
The Biden campaign and Democratic National Committee, hoping to assuage post-debate concerns, held a Saturday afternoon call with committee members. It brought intense anger, with participants saying they were “gaslit” during a business-as-usual discussion that largely avoided Biden’s debate performance. “I was hoping for more of a substantive conversation instead of, ‘Hey, let’s go out there and just be cheerleaders,’ without actually addressing a very serious issue that unfolded on American television for millions of people to see,” DNC member Joe Salazar told the Associated Press.
They also released a campaign fundraising email that was both defiant (“First of all: Joe Biden is going to be the Democratic nominee, period. End of story.”) and yet also attacked worried Democrats as “The bedwetting brigade”!
Great! They’re starting to treat their own team the way they’ve been treating the other half of the country for the last three years.
In yet another sign of desperation they also released a new Joe video (38s) which is embedded here, but which is so painful I don’t want to show it. Once again it hammers away on Trump-Is-A-Threat-To-Democracy, this time by implication. That has been their only talking point for months now and it hasn’t worked. You’d think that reality would push them back to a positive campaign approach, but apparently they don’t want to run on Biden’s record despite many quick comments I’ve seen from supporters about how great the last three and a half years has been. Herewith this quick summary of the video:
I counted nine different cuts in that 38 second video, and even then, Biden struggled to get through his lines in some segments. The glassy eyes, the stiff presentation, and the raspy voice are all there. It’s the same guy who blew up his campaign last Thursday evening in front of a large segment of the country. Any claims that Biden looks and sounds better earlier in the day in a more controlled environment are simply cope.
A more extensive roundup of Democrat Party panic here for your entertainment, but I’ll extract this one since The Young Turks are always hysterical:
Then there’s the wider panic in the Democrat Party, which includes not just worries about Biden but about his possible replacements. Although it’s a year old this Saturday Night Live skit accurately captures the debate around both… (amazing that SNL actually poked fun at the Democrats).
Meantime the Biden family themselves are encouraging him to continue:
At a Camp David gathering on Sunday, President Biden’s extended family urged him to ignore the growing number of voices asking him to quit the race — and many of his loved ones blamed his disastrous debate on his advisors. According to Politico, the two who most forcefully encouraged the 81-year-old Biden to continue were his wife Jill and his son Hunter — the two people whose opinion he reportedly values most.
Ah yes. Advice from that deep pool of calm stability and good judgement, Hunter Biden.
Truth be told the reason the whole family is in on Joe continuing is that they’re a giant crab bucket of grifters, and once Joe is gone they’ll have to live the rest of their useless lives on accumulated graft, which they’ll fritter away on drugs and other consumer shit, plus poor investment decisions, as they’ve done in the past. And when it’s all gone they’ll have no way to make more money; entrepreneurship and business management not being a Biden family skill.
I give it ten years before they’re living on the streets.
