One of the strongest advocates for open-border immigration everywhere is local NZ blogger, Peter Cresswell, a New Zealand architect and an Objectivist, which is the philosophy of Ayn Rand. When I say philosophy I mean it’s a complete moral and ethical framework for living your life and informing how societies should be run, of which just one aspect is an almost pure laissaz faire economics.

That last has been manifested to an impure degree in political entities here in NZ, with ACT the party closest to a Libertarian ideal. But Peter and other Objectivists aren’t too impressed with ACT (niether am I sometimes) and formed the LibertarianNZ Party, which pushed well past ACT in various areas in accordance with as much Objectivist philosophy as they felt the public could swallow.

It turned out that the NZ public could not swallow even that much of Ms Rand and the Party was dis-established a few years ago after gaining only tiny vote totals nationwide in successive elections, but Peter is still going strong and he has a lot of interesting, thought-provoking stuff.

In particular was an article on the Not PC blog in 2019, Open Borders Are A Trillion Dollar Idea, which in turn is based around a in-depth article published by the Cato Institute, Why Should We Restrict Immigration. It’s accepted that there are problems, and ‘solutions’ to those can be found at this link about so-called Keyhole Solutions, but I’ll deal with the theory in a separate post after looking at the practical results of mass immigration to the Western world.

Overall it doesn’t look like it’s working out very well in the modern age, and the key reason is that unlike previous waves of immigration of the last hundred years, especially into the USA, and to a lessor extent other European or Anglophile countries such as Canada and Australia, a large proportion of immigrants are now not being assimilated into the local culture.

And let’s also be clear that we’re only talking about ONE group of immigrants: Islamists – and by that term I don’t mean Muslims who have immigrated to Britain and adopted the locals culture of keeping their religion private. No, I’m talking about these folks, who are feeling very triumphant.

Britain

I’ll start with Britain simply because they happen to be in the news at present on this issue with lots of rioting going on, this time not from Islamists or Palestinian supporters but White Brits against Muslims. According to the Pure And Holy – who range across the political and ideological spectrum – this is just nativist racism with nothing to justify it.

The revenge factor doesn’t just hold against the Jews but against Britain and the entire West:

  • “If you don’t like Muslims in Britain, then you can always leave” – Bushra Shaikh
  • “Your prime minister is Indian, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan Muslim and England is filled with foreigners especially with Muslims and Indians. So, soon you will become minority and a century later your descendants will be born as Muslims or in some other religion” – Aziz Karim
  • “We will remain here as ‘guests’ for as long as Britain forcibly made themselves “guests” in our ancestral lands. We will plant our seeds across this barren island, and will continue being a reminder and inviter to God in society” – Dilly Hussain

Today there are over 3,000 mosques in England. There are over 130 sharia courts. There are more than 50 Sharia Councils. 78 percent of Muslim women do not work, receive state support + free accommodation. 63 percent of Muslims do not work, receive state support + free housing. State-supported Muslim families with an average of 6 to 8 children receive free accommodation.

It’s got to the point that even many on the Libertarian side (remember, they’re not as pure as the Objectivists), have had enough, as this Samizdata post from June 2024 reveals, and it starts with a quote from a Mr Matthew Syed, writing in The Times about how he thinks Nigel Farage is a bit of a snake on immigration, but how he’s winning because previous governments were not honest about the subject, starting with Tony Blair (“we will drown the right in Diversity”….[to] “rub the right’s nose in diversity and render their arguments out of date”.), followed by the Tories trying to prove how wrong the Left were and that they too, loved non-White immigrants, and how this has led to a slow loss of trust in the government and all authorities. The Samizdata writer, Natalie Solent, begs to differ:

The dissipation of trust is no longer slow. That loss of trust is one of the things that has made me much less pro-immigration than I once was. If that means the loss of my Libertarian purity certificate, so be it. I see a similar change in many others. We used to talk expansively about how we did not trust the state one inch, but I think in secret we did trust the bureaucrats and the politicians to be responsible gatekeepers. We no longer do. Inevitably, that means we want stronger gates. If you feel my “we” above does not include you, feel free to explain why in the comments. My old self, the one that hovered on the edge of being an advocate for the abolition of borders, is still in there somewhere, pleading to be reconvinced.

Suffice to say her readers – none of them sounding like Tory or Labour people – do not even try to convince her. A couple of samples:

Libertarians believe in the freedom of association, which implies the freedom to choose the opposite. Britain has become somewhere where that latter choice has been nuked from orbit.

When you press the enthusiasts for the mass immigration to Britain (and Europe wider) over the past 30 years or so hard enough, their justifications largely are reduced to racial revenge. Basically, several centuries ago Britain had built a large empire, so now the ex-colonised have a right to colonise us and make our lives miserable.

That last is not an Objectivist argument of course, and I have to admit that in New Zealand at least the Labour Party in 2017 made it quite clear that if elected they were going to slow down the huge immigration that had happened under National – and Labour got strong support from voters on the issue.

But we’re an exception, as the Euro-Left’s response to all this has shown, now including British PM Starmer, and I put this down to the Left’s old idea about destroying the Capitalist West so that their new Marxist order can rise, being succeeded by the modern Woke Left’s ideas about racism, colonialism and so forth, which also demands the destruction of the West, and in which goal the Islamists can help them.

Were I an Objectivist I’d be taken a harder look at the motivations of such allies before siding with them, as Not PC did the other day in addressing the current British riots, linking to a Guardian article that poo-pooed the twenty years of Islamic rape gangs preying on White British girls, an article co-authored by one Dr Waqas Tufail who is:

Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Leeds Beckett University. His research interests include Islamophobia, the policing, racialization and criminalization of marginalized and minority communities and the lived experiences of Muslim minorities.

And as such has long been totally against the portrayal of “Muslim Grooming Gangs” in places like Rotherham:

The horrific and widely reported crimes committed in places such as Rochdale, Oxford and Telford were real: but racist stereotyping and demonisation deflected from that.

Well actually no: the long-running rape gang world of Rotherham, Telford and other places, was enabled precisely by the Police and other local authorities doing nothing to stop it because they were “fearful of appearing racist”, intimidated by terms such as “Islamophobia” that Mr Tufail continues to throw around to win arguments. He doesn’t even give any support to the standard British kink of calling them “Asian gangs”. According to his Linked In profile, he’s also huge supporter of the recent “pro-Palestine, Anti-Zionist” (wink) protests in London, which he defends with the same Leftist cries of “Islamaphobia”. That’s some ally for open borders Objectivists.

There was also this interesting Samizdata post from July, exploring the same question:

For years I have been trying to reconcile my belief in freedom with my doubts about immigration and have totally failed.

It’s written by an Irish immigrant who himself was the descendent of the Scottish/British-Protestant immigrants dumped into Ireland in the 18th and 19th centuries. He grew up in the Irish Republic very near the border with Northern Ireland and played with Catholic mates, even as the IRA was happily killing Protestants just a few miles away, and he makes a couple of key points based on that experience:

How was that possible if Protestants and Catholics are supposed to despise one another? Was there some sort of Gaelic Exceptionalism at play? No. It was because in the Republic we Protestants were only 3% of the population. Probably lower by now. We didn’t count. We weren’t a threat to anyone.

You could argue that there is a difference between immigrants who come as conquerors and those who come peacefully. But Ulster history has got that one covered too. Before 1800, Belfast was an exclusively Protestant/British town. As its industries expanded they needed more labour and so the Irish were drawn in from outside. This may have worked out just fine for the industrialists but it did not work out well for anybody else. The first riots took place in the 1850s.

But Britain is not alone in these new troubles.

Germany

The data from the interior ministry shows that 41 percent of all crime suspects are foreigners, with 2.246 million people in the country suspected of a crime in 2023, which is 7.3 percent more than in 2022. Overall, foreigners only represent 15 percent of the population.

That is hardly a surprise, but look at the Green Party member, Dr. Stefanie von Berg, exulting before the German parliament:

Mrs. President, ladies and gentlemen. Our society will change. Our city will change radically. I hold that in 20, 30 years there will no longer be a [German] majority in our city. …. And I want to make it very clear, especially towards those right wingers: This is a good thing!

I hope that Dr. Stefanie von Berg lives long enough to actually live her dream, and to watch her children and grandchildren (if she has any) also live it.

Sweden

Muslim AK-47s and Bombings Turn Sweden Into War Zone (2019):

Sweden is reeling from a wave of shootings and bombings with 268 shootings just this year so far. And that’s in a country of 10 million people which has crime numbers on par with some American cities…These shootings aren’t being carried out with handguns, but with AK-47s…Along with hand grenades and other explosives rarely seen in America…There have been 187 bomb attacks this year. In just 1 week in August, there were three major bombings. Much of the violence is concentrated in Malmo which experienced 58 bombings in 2017.

It is not a coincidence that Malmo has a sizable immigrant and Muslim population.

Sweden is Safer in the Summer (2024):

In southern Sweden, it becomes quieter in the summer when the criminals go on holiday to their home countries, according to the police.

Those would be the home countries that many of them fled from as refugees and asylum seekers. The foreign-born represent 53% of those with long prison sentences, 58% of the unemployed, get 77% of Sweden’s child poverty and 90% of suspects in public shootings have immigrant backgrounds. I saw no figure for the bombings, but Sweden has had 134 bomb attacks so far in 2024. When I was growing up I never heard of bombings in Abba Land.

France

But there are plenty of things happening with immigrants in Europe that never turn into crimes but nevertheless are a blight on society:

“I am 26 years old, blonde, with light eyes, and I have always lived in the 6th arrondissement of Lyon, which is thought of as the poshest area in Lyon, and my daily life has become unbearable. I write this because, ten years ago, I could go out with my friends in the evening, at any hour, without being bothered, insulted, followed, or stabbed.
…
As for myself, on a regular basis, men follow me, insult me because I refuse to talk back or because I say I have a boyfriend. One day, one spit on me. More and more, I am whistled at like a dog, or “ksksks”‘d like I am a cat. Acts of this nature have happened to me perhaps thirty times in the past year.

Her life has completely changed in ten years, and she blames unchecked illegal immigration, a policy France’s left-wing parties not only support but actively aid – just as they have in most of the other European countries in the last twenty years. Is it any wonder that the “Far Right” have gained in every French election for twenty years now.

America

If there is one nation where Islamic immigration should be working it’s the Nation of Immigrants, as JFK’s ghost-written, Pultizer Prize-winning book had it.

However it is actually Death to America – in America, and in the key swing state of Michigan no less:

Around the 40-minute mark of that video, as the crowd screams “Free, Free Palestine” and the genocidal “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will be Free,” an activist named Tarek Bazzi came to the podium.

Bazzi, however, clearly wasn’t interested in electoral politics. He invoked the Ayatollah Khomeini and charged that the U.S. was “the backbone of all oppression in the world,” to which the crowd responded with screams of “Death to America” (al-mawt li Amrika). Bazzi showed no reaction, but paused until the screams died down. Then Bazzi brought up Malcolm X, quoting him as saying: “We live in one of the rottenest countries that has ever existed on this earth.” 

From 1933 to 1941 there was quite an active Nazi Party movement in the USA – but they tried desperately to bring the American people to their cause by claiming common beliefs, causes and enemies – as Alistair Cooke memorably described in his “America” TV series, when he talked of attending a huge “Bund” rally in NYC in 1941 that had huge banners showing George Washington, Abraham Lincoln,and Adolf Hitler.

It is a mark of how far America has already fallen that the likes of Tarek Bazzi don’t even bother with such appeals and that the Democrat Party, in their craven desperation to cling to power in the White House, are on board with that.
