I’ve often made jokes about modern Britain becoming more like its Nineteen Eighty Four version, to the extent of using that image meme above. And I’ve continued to do even in the wake of ever-more serious things like:
- Isabel Vaughan-Spruce being arrested for silently praying in her head outside an abortion clinic. After a six-month investigation the Midlands Police have concluded the arrest was wrong, and she’s won a settlement of £13,000.
- Arrests of British Army Vets and ex-cops for “causing anxiety” with social media posts.
- British Police stopping a group of people crossing a London street because it might cause problems with a pro-Hamas rally, with a senior cop telling the men that they are “openly Jewish”.
- People arrested because of complaints about things said on Facebook.
- A man jailed for 18 months for chanting “Who the fuck is Allah” during a protest.
I should note that there have also been prison sentences handed down for people who actually made inciting statements on social media – things like encouraging people to burn down hotels where immigrants were being housed. I don’t have a problem with that; if you’d stood on a street a hundred years ago saying such things or handing out flyers with such statements you could expect to be arrested and thrown in prison.
But many of these cases – most of them in fact – are over language that is not inciting crime but merely saying things that are “offensive”. And while it started with “racists” who aren’t keen on Islamists preaching in mosques, it’s now moved to “terfs” and a movable feast of minority groups demanding that they be protected from whatever they define as “hate speech”.
Which is all bad enough, but now it’s being seen that such people are actually being treated worse than actual criminals, including even child pornographers.
I’m now past the point where I can laugh at this. People like Judge Tom Bayliss need to be fired from their jobs. At a minimum I’d like to see him confronted about this on TV in an interview.
Also understand that Labour and the Greens will push for such laws here in New Zealand in future, and that the NZ Police are already being trained up for it.
Here’s the moment when Isabel Vaughan-Spruce was arrested.
Mens Rea is a key legal concept of long standing.
It has a great bearing on what crime a person is guilty of and then the sentencing.
It seems a person standing silently has a guilty mind easily judged by the police – obviously the Police have special powers or Isabel has a video screen on her forehead playing her thoughts for all to see. Mens Rea written large, at least for the arresting officers!
The British judiciary like the NZ Judiciary seem to have such a deep seated Left wing mindset that:
Again Mens Rea is derived by the politics of the situation – and the politics in Britain are set by far Left zealots hell bent on the destruction of the last vestiges of British Culture and Tradition…. so a Left Wing Utopia can be build amid the ruins.
One must ask – where will the British Gulags be built? In Scotland would seem to inhumane even for rabid Leftists!! (Evidence for this is based on the fact that Scots leave Scotland in large numbers regularly to live anywhere else!)
I’d forgotten about Mens Rea but I’ll quote from that Tweet because that’s exactly what you’re describing:
