When the Twitter files were published in 2022, following Musk’s takeover of Twitter (now rebranded by him as “X”), one of the many astounding revelations was the degree to which the FBI and other US Federal government agencies had heavied Twitter into censoring its users on all manner of things. Mainly Covid-19 stuff (via the CDC and related government agencies) and the Hunter Biden laptop story (the FBI, although the CIA also got a look in) but other things as well. See Matt Taibbi’s The Twitter Files link on the right-hand side of this blog for details, plus my summary post, The Twitter Files Library, for details.
Needless to say that if Twitter had been got to by the US government, it was highly likely that Facebook and other social media sites had aslo got the same treatment. Facebook was mum on the subject and when confronted in Congress, the head of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security), Mayorkas, flatly denied this under oath.
Now, with Zuckerberg’s carefully crafted admission that it did happen at Facebook, we’ll see if Mayorkas is prepared to front Congress and lie so blantantly again. In his position he has the usual head-guy’s excuse that he wasn’t informed.
Mayorkas has no oversight of the FBI, NSA or CIA…

So I reckon while he may have known about it, a reasonable assumption, if FBI or the White House pressured Social Media then him saying he didn’t do it could be truthful.
Is there a smoking email showing his dept.’s interacting with Twitter??
(Note: I haven’t seen a list of the Agencies involved in the Twitter meetings to push certain info off of the platform or suppress its reach via algorithm manipulation)
Given that the DHS was established precisely because of the failures of the CIA, NSA and other watchers of foreign affairs to communicate with the FBI and other watchers of domestic affairs in the lead up to the 9/11 attacks, I’m a bit surprised to see you giving Mayorkas a formal way out of not knowing what they were up to.
Having said that, I always thought the creation of the DHS was a move typical of “moderate Centre-Rightists” like Bush, in that it draped over a bunch of failed agencies a new veil of bureaucracy that supposedly linked them together.
Besides that, he was adamant that the answer was “NO”, and he would have gone into that session with a fair idea of what he was going to be asked, which usually results in questions to others along the lines of “What don’t I know that I should from you pricks?”.
“I’m a bit surprised to see you giving Mayorkas a formal way out of not knowing what they were up to.”
No. Just showing that Mayorkas has probably established a plausible denial position
… a plausible denial position…
Heh. Well the link you gave me would certainly do that. As I said it’s a surprise not to see the FBI, CIA and company reporting to the DHS. I thought that was the whole fucking idea?
: )
FBI is a subsidiary of Dept of Justice.
CIA is a foreign Country that operates with sovereign independence from the standing Govt and elected representatives!
