The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.
In the not so distant past, and right on America’s border, though Americans would have thought the political distance to be in terms of light years, Mario Vargas Llosa, the Nobel literature laureate from Peru, caused a firestorm on Mexican television in 1991 by stating the following to Mexican viewers, Make No Mistake. You Are Living Under the Perfect Censorship:
Criticism—up to a point—was permitted, even encouraged, to maintain the illusion of Mexico being democratic. Opposition parties were allowed, but they often found that the means for an effective election campaign was controlled by the ruling party. As Vargas Llosa explained, a special kind of political rhetoric had been created to justify Mexico’s political system by recruiting intellectuals who were all too willing to prostitute themselves. In short, it was a deviation from the traditional style of brutal military dictatorship, but it was a dictatorship nonetheless.
That article in Human Events goes on to detail the frightening similarities between Mexico under the PRI and what has been developing in other Western countries in the decades since then:
Most of the 2020 Democratic primary candidates advocated “regulating” “hate speech” and “white nationalism” speech. As early as 1974, then-Senator Joe Biden had bragged that politicians could take away the First Amendment while, during the Democratic presidential debate, Kamala Harris called on Twitter to delete President Trump’s account. Sen. Bernie Sanders, the socialist Senator from Vermont, wants to control all facets of journalism.
The very same people that so fiercely advocated free speech decades ago are now equally fiercely advocating censorship. Read that whole article, written by a man who escaped from Cuba.
Despite everything that has happened with the American MSM and American politics over the last few years, the incredible lies and bullshit and coverups around things like the Great Russian Collusion Hoax, Hunter Biden’s laptop, and now, most of all, the dropping of the mask about “President” Biden’s cognitive problems over the last five years, they’re going to try for one more incredible exercise in gaslighting. They’re going to throw everything and the kitchen sink at pushing the seasick weary barque of Kamala Harris over the Presidential finish line in 2024 – and this after the MSM were sticking it to her when there was talk about booting her off the ticket. Most of the MSM vomit from the last couple of weeks deserves a separate post. But they still had one last coverup of Biden to perform, in this case his “selfless” decision to quit the race:

The blatant lying and re-writing of their own history as well as that of Kamala Harris, right in our faces as we see and read them on the Internet (which does not forget) is worse than anything I’ve seen from the MSM in my lifetime. Not even the worshipful idolising of Barack Obama in 2008 matches this, mainly because re-writing his pre-Internet history was easier.
Do they know something else? Per Frank Zappa, are they finally ready to pull back the curtains? How else to explain that they’re going to try and change their own history and records about Harris, just like Winston Smith does in Nineteen Eighty Four. They’re actually going to do this right before our eyes even as they know we now see them in the wake of their own recent admissions that they knew and either said nothing or lied about Biden’s mental and physical condition.
Generally I’ve always discounted statements of: “the media is biased to the left/right” as the die hards on either side claim.
But was commenting to someone the other day, that in my lifetime I cannot remember this level of political bias in our own media, at least during the 6pm news on both channels. It’s become a farce to watch at times.
I’ve never seen anything like this and I’d consider myself a centrist voter. I certainly have no allegiance to the “left” to “right”.
When Tova O’Brien I think it was asked Luxon when he was in the USA (and she was over there doing ‘serious reporting’) if he would “work with Trump if he was elected” I couldn’t work out if it was a joke or if she was actually serious.
