Having watched the tokensim yesterday as the following took place during Question Time. Roughly in order as I recall:

Takuta Ferris – using Te Reo to be a smart arse.

Christopher Luxon – stuttering and stammering (in Te Reo) in reply.

Tama Potaka – fluent in answering questions.

Chloe Swarbrick – slowly reading from a Te Reo script

Shane Jones – fluent with (appropriate?) gesticulations when making a Point of Order

Huhana Lyndon – fluent but very longwinded to no apparent effect.

Others interjecting and questioning interpretations.

Most of us watching on Parliamentary TV (or radio) having no idea what was being said.

Mr Speaker (aka Big Gerry) you are old enough to remember the somewhat saucy French Films that TVNZ used to screen after 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Dialogue was almost always in French and like Te Reo most watchers had no idea what was being said. At least in those days the script was shown below in English which meant that everyone watching through that translation and the on screen actions knew what was going on.

Surely if Parliament can manage translations for Parliamentarians in the House they can do the English translations for Political Tragics who diligently watch Question Time.
