There’s truth to the historic observation of Short Man Syndrome, with Napoleon as the prime example.
Robert Reich. He is in many ways a creature of the distant past. An old-style American Boomer “liberal” economist who strongly pushes old-fashioned ideas like boosting the minimum wage, empowering unions, and so forth – although he fought them over the NAFTA deal. I only know of him because he was Secretary of Labour in Bill Clinton’s first Presidential term (1993-1997). He was disappointed to find that Clinton’s famous “triangulation” strategy for winning re-election in 1996 meant that Reich’s economic ideas around labour were never implemented to the extent he wanted.
It all showed that he didn’t have a lot of political sense. Why join an outfit that was built on the idea of repudiating much of what Mondale and Dukakis – and thus Reich – had stood for. Clinton, being a political genius, knew that having Reich onside would count, until he didn’t need him anymore, which was the case by 1996.
And now we have this:
Elon I know you’re watching us and I want you to know that even if, you know, Trump wins – I mean it’s not going to happen – but even if he wins and if you get a position in the administration I guarantee you I’m going to make life so difficult for you really so difficult for you so just be very careful of yourself okay…
I’ve tuned up the following video of Reich’s election-night burblings to the point where he makes this pathetic threat.
Musk and he have butted heads before:

Basically, Why do Millionaires hate Billionaires? – because Reich is pretty cool with capitalism:

But as pathetic and empty as this threat is, it should be noted because Reich is very much plugged in to the Washington D.C. elites, and there will be thousands of them saying exactly the same thing behind closed doors and planning how to “resist” Trump, just as they did between 2017 and 2021.
