If I’m going to pick a political Lie Of The Year I’m going to look at not just the fluff of one that “resonates” with journalists and readers of the MSM, let alone just one source. No, I’m going to look at the impact the lie had on fundamental aspects of politics, ending with the solidity of the trustworthiness of the government itself, especially when its in the form of the most powerful office on Earth, the nuclear armed President of the USA. A lie that shakes the people’s faith in those structures is surely going to be the Lie Of The Year.
How about the Song Of The Year (2m)?
When picking the Lie Of The Year the MSM are not going to talk about themselves and the lies they freely spread in 2024. Of course.
No, they’re talking about politicians, and Politico’s selection is exactly what you would expect from the partisan bastards:

As such you’d think they’d have some shame given that none other than their beloved stable mates, the New York Times, The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal had all just dropped in-depth articles about Biden’s terrible cognitive decline and how the staff covered that up from the start of his Presidency. You can click on the link for the gruesome details but you’ll learn little you didn’t already know from reading my posts on the subject here since 2019.
Thus it’s not surprising that commentators on X had a field day with alternative suggestions for Politico and while there are plenty at that link these are the best, starting with my personal favourite:
- “Sharp as a Tack”
- “This version of Biden, intellectually, analytically, is the best Biden ever.”
- “I will not pardon my son.”
Speaking of Hunter the following piece of news came out ten days too late for Politico, and not just as an ordinary Friday night news dump but the Friday between Christmas and new Year:
The National Archives has finally released photos showing then-Vice President Biden meeting with two of first son Hunter Biden’s Chinese government-linked business partners — again proving that the president lied about not interacting with his family’s foreign patrons.

The cache of photos, released long after their potential political salience and days before Biden retires on Jan. 20, also show Chinese President Xi Jinping grinning as then-Vice President Biden introduced his son during the same December 2013 trip to Beijing.

The newly released photos, which would have been politically explosive if they were released during the now-closed House impeachment inquiry into alleged Biden family corruption, show the elder Biden shaking hands with incoming BHR Partners CEO Jonathan Li and greeting the company’s managing director Ming Xue.
BHR being just one part of the Biden Family Grift set up by Hunter but with Joe as the reason – and Joe knew it all along, exactly as the Right-Wing media and social media had claimed, for what other reason would such sums of money flow in from overseas.
But aside from Biden there were others involved in the corruption, which stretches all the way from that December 2013 trip to the release of the photos, given their “potential political salience” and being “politically explosive” if released before the election:
“AFL [America First Legal] obtained the photos through our lawsuit against the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), which was filed on September 8, 2022,” the group led by President-elect Donald Trump’s adviser Stephen Miller wrote on X.
“NARA had planned to release these photographs on October 23, 2024 — thirteen days before Election Day. Lawyers and representatives for President Biden and President Obama delayed NARA’s release of these photos — as they did with other critical records — until after Election Day.”
And President Obama! Well, well, well, an awful lot of potential corruption then, covered by plenty of juicy lies. That link to Ace of Spades has many screen-captured examples of the MSM hard at work covering up or excusing or arguing away all this, which is fun to read but also angering when you realise that they – meaning both the Biden family and the MSM – are going to get away with this particular lie and coverup, massive as it is. Especially with it being Christmas and New Year, and Biden going out the door, the MSM will happily memory-hole it all.
Fortunately the MSM told plenty of other blatant lies during the year, and that has appeared to catch up with them, both in terms of political losses of their beloved Democrats, and viewers abandoning them. The Grabien website, which specialises in capturing such about the MSM, presents their Top Ten list for 2024:

- Cheap fakes as an excuse for Biden.
- Getting a Brit interviewer who doesn’t understand what a Constitutional Republic is.
- Beyonce will perform live at Kamala’s coronation.
- Project 2025 (Dunh, Dunh, Daaaaaa).
- X is now a site of misinformation and other horrors thanks to Elon Musk.
- Tim Walz is America’s MidWestern “Happy Warrior” Dad and Vance is “wierd” (boy did that backfire).
- Hitler 2.0.
- Joe Biden will put law before family because he has so much respect for the law.
- Editing Kamala Harris’s answers to interview questions to make her look better.
- There’s no cognitive decline. Hide the Decline!
As this rip-snorting article from National Review (no friend of Trump) put it, After the Biden Revelations, of What Value Is the Mainstream Political Media?:
Joe Biden’s mental decline was no secret to conservatives for the simple reason that each of us has eyes and the ability to use them to assess Biden’s obvious physical and mental decline. You could condescend to us and insult our intelligence all you wanted, jabber about “cheap fakes” and call us crazy — it didn’t matter. We knew what it was that we saw with Biden, and weren’t going to be gaslighted. We were right because of course we were. It was blazingly obvious.
Exactly. I wasn’t being super smart or prescient about this, just using – as NR says – my eyes and ears, and although I’ll claim I bagged him back in May 2019, I can still laugh at NR’s take:
So what the hell happened to the mainstream media during this entire period? Where were our sentinels of the republic, those tribunes of truth? How can the Fourth Estate, with its eyes forever upon the world of Washington politics, have missed Biden’s advancing mental and physical decrepitude? Why did so many journalists claim they weren’t even suspicious after it all came crashing down in late June?
I have an appealingly simple theory to explain this mystery: They didn’t miss this at all. Everyone knew, and the sorts of people who would have normally pursued these whispers about Biden’s remoteness — obvious enough from his calendar and the behavior of his public minders — simply decided not to because it was not in the best interests of the Democratic Party to do so, at least as perceived by the “herd mind” of the media, the left-tinged blob of assignment editors, investigative reporters, and liberal commentators across Washington.
The NR writer has fun proving this in a different way, by showing how the MSM themselves dumped on this aspect of Biden right up until it was obvious he’d been rescued by TPTB and would run in 2020, after which they went quiet, only to light up again after the June 2024 debate when he had to be pushed out of the race for the sake of the Democrat Party.
Whether it was partisanship or uselessness actually doesn’t matter (like NR my bet is on the former), but I do appreciate the latter given NR’s searing scorn if that’s the case:
We are cursed with the most useless media class in the world, a mass of despairingly hopeless incompetents who failed in the most important duty they were ever asked to perform in their jobs.
Still assuming that they have credibility Politico next pronounced about 9 Political Issues That Bit the Dust This Year, which was simply more revelations about what the Right-Wing knew and they didn’t. I can’t be bothered with the details (you can click the link) but here’s the one line list:
- Celebrity endorsements (DOH!)
- Equal justice under the law (all about Trump, natch. No mention of Hunter).
- Traditional Canvassing. (Podcasts and social media algo rule: WAH!)
- DEI Programs (music to my ears but they’ll sneak the same shit in via other ways).
- Relying on Abortion to Turn Out Voters. (as I said, a one-trick pony for the 2022 mid-terms).
- Trusting the “Experts” (Oh Noes. The horror, the horror. See Experts and Leftist Myths).
- The Kennedy Mystique (Oh please, if he was still a Democrat you’d still be pushing it).
- The “Misinformation” Industry (Like Trump it is now more powerful than ever. Politico tries to explain but never gets to the core idea that maybe it’s on them. The closest they get is “increasingly, no one is listening”, but it’s a lament not a question).
- Politics on SNL (FFS, The Age of Obama almost killed it. It sure as hell died after this in 2016).
Lies can only really be caught out by those who are not liars, and in 2024 the American public, either before the election or (in the case of Lefties) after the election, realised that the MSM were right up there with used car/insurance salesman and politicians.
And there are no new, pure alternatives. You’re on your own folks, but you do have the most amazing information system in human history to use, if you are willing to expend the time.
