The Cabinet re vamp announced yesterday by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon raises one question as far as I am concerned and it has nothing to do with the personnel changes involved. Especially as the changes and ousting of Melissa Lee involves only National MP’s.

This reshuffle indicates that each party in the Coalition is responsible for it’s own Cabinet Members and they are untouchable as far as other Party Leaders, including the Prime Minister are concerned. Unless of course a major balls up or unsavoury or dishonest incident occurs.

But, what about the various new and/or amended Portfolios of which there are three that I can see in this reshuffle. Being:

  • A new South Island Portfolio.
  • A new Universities Portfolio which also varies the Tertiary Education Portfolio
  • Economic Development renamed Economic Growth Portfolio.

My Question is this:

Were ACT and NZFirst Leaders David Seymour and particularly Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters consulted about these changes?

Trivial yes – without a doubt.

But, still a necessary courtesy as far as I am concerned in the interests of a united Coalition Government.
