It is ridiculous and an answer may be for all anglers to go a season or two to decline to play the childish games and deny the castle dwellers money to play with. Akaroa Salmon will supply two fish from their farm at Wainui for similar money and no costs beyond a trip to their retail outlet.
Two fish a year for a hobby get a frickin life.

I quit paying for permission to try to catch poisoned fish in polluted lakes and rivers and, so far, no-one has noticed.
Being forced to pay for access to fish or hunt species that are called “pests” by government “authorities”, that are spending Billion of our dollars to try to poison and eradicate them is legalized extortion.
The public property on which we fish or hunt belongs to us and all the rest of the people. Being forced to pay for access to property you own is a crooked scam to make the people that utilize the access PAY TWICE.
As most anglers and hunters have noticed, access is now more difficult than it used to be. Do you think that is an accident?
The license fees we are forced to pay to F&G do little or nothing to improve water quality of the abundance of healthy trout, salmon or other game species because the government politicians and bureaucrats that have authority over F&G hate these species and the “common” people that appreciate them.
Why are we financially supporting the F&G commercial enterprise when we receive so little value for what we are forced to pay?
Why are we agreeing to apply for permits (that we will soon have to pay for) to do “pest control” on public lands we are part owners of?
Why are the common people that work and produce the wealth, that people called “the government” take and waste so wantonly, getting so little value in return?
Are the majority of citizens of New Zealand really that dumb or do they just like being ripped off?
