The headline: Watch: ’Terrifying moment’ Ravindra struck in the head
Many of us have played cricket, whether well or, as in my case, badly. In my case the only protection offered was pads, box and gloves.
In my case, as no doubt many others case, we faced some fairly quick bowlers and hard-hit balls. Most of the time we protected ourselves or ducked but sometimes (more than I can count) we didn’t.
Out of my eight fingers, for instance, only one is straight (gloves often were not that protective).
The only time in all that I can remember being scared only when forced to field short-leg to an erratic bowler.
Which leads me to – The question:
terrifying
adjective
- Frightening or intimidating.
- Of a formidable nature; terrific.
- Causing extreme terror.
What the fuck is “terrifying” about not being good enough to catch a ball?
Did you actually watch the footage and see the blood pouring off his forehead? It was pretty terrifying. He also looked really, badly dazed. Perhaps you could ask Philip Hughes whether it was terrifying when Sean Abbott bowled a bouncer at him? Or perhaps not, because, oh yeah, that killed him.
That ball was hit low and hard at him, at night, in the line of the lights, so no wonder he lost sight of it. Ravindra is an excellent fielder in most cases, so perhaps you should think before you post nasty, tone deaf shit like this again.
Fucking halfwits who don’t know the difference between words should be neither seen nor heard.
And no, I doubt Hughs was “terrified”. If he was he wouldn’t have been there in the first place.
The post was about a word, not the consequences or even lack of sympathy and, having been hit by cricket balls that could, in certain circumstances similar to Hughs, Ravindra and countless others, done serious or fatal damage between the ages of 12 and 40 (when I retired from playing cricket), never once have I witnessed or felt terror on the field.
Keep running, stop wanking!
The last time I saw a take this bad was Bob Jones mocking Trump for getting his ear scratched. Terrifying is exactly how I would describe the scene of a man bleeding excessively from his forehead and unable to stand up. I feared for the man’s health if not very life. Terrifying. Yes it was. And then you mock him for not catching it? That’s just soulless. You must have some sort of sociopathy is all I can say.
If I was setting up to catch a cricket ball reverse-cup, then at the last second lost sight of it then yeah, I would be a more than a little scared of what was about to happen to me.
Scared or, if you were just watching, terrified?
