On a more serious note, while it is the nature of politics for political parties that are down and out to come back – often with a roar, as the GOP did in 2010 just two years after being dismissed in the glow of Obama’s victory as “The Party Of Old, White Southern Men” – I’m starting to wonder if that can happen here with the Democrats by 2026 or even 2028?

The reason I’m starting to have doubts about the comeback is because these lunatics above are not just the face of the Democrats, their speeches and commentary and antics are what has elevated them to fame (also infamy), political success and fortune, so they cannot give that up.

Ocasio-Cortez, Crockett, and their ilk are never going to sit quietly while their party puts on a moderate face and steers back to Middle America. Does anyone think any of them are going to stop going on CNN and MSNBC to sound like unhinged lunatics and moronic idiots (or both)? Or that they’ll stop releasing nutty, cringe-fest, promotional videos that make them the face of the Democratic Party? 

Understand that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) begged his members not to act like a class of five year olds having temper tantrums during Trump’s speech. But they didn’t even let the president make it through his first paragraph before they tried to shut the entire event down, leading to the Sergeant at Arms having to get involved to restore order. 

In the mid-2000’s, following the loss of the Presidential election in 2004, the all-powerful Nancy Pelosi and sidekick Rahm Emanuel (former mayor of Chicago) launched a massive recruiting drive not just for registered voters and wealthy donors but for candidates that could fool Independent and GOP voters in the Red and Purple states. These candidates came to be known as “Blue Dogs”, an allusion to the old claim about “Yellow Dog Democrats” from the South, where it was said that voters in the old Confederacy would vote for a yellow dog if it was a Democrat.

The Blue Dogs sounded like Republicans and the trick worked. Pelosi and company had an overwhelming win in the 2006 Mid-Terms that effectively ended GW Bush’s Presidency and set the scene for Obama.

Of course it also set the scene for the 2010 destruction of the Democrats, as Nancy whipped the Blue Dogs into voting for every dingbat proposal the Democrats produced from 2009-2011. The voters noticed that they’d been suckered and responded ferociously.

That’s another aspect of this current scene; the 2010 destruction of the Blue Dogs was so complete and the betrayal of their voters so burned into voters’ memories that Pelosi and Emanual’s stunt could not be tried again. That fact, plus the Democrats being stuck with these people, and that they increasingly run the show – Jefffries is no Pelosi and her influence is finally fading fast – means that they are the faces of the party now. There will be no pivot.
