TBF, as gay, secular, British commentator Douglas Murray pointed out the other day, it’s difficult to call out the usual Minto mob when even Pope Francis and his bishops, the Archbishop of Canterbury and other sundry Christian leaders have hardly said a word about this either.
Just shows you how far gone most Christians are nowadays.
My parish is under the Patriarch of Antioch based in Damascus. Most of my family’s godparents are Levantine Arab Christians. We figured out at least a decade ago from these people that, akshually, Assad was the only one who was protecting Christians in the region, and removing him would be a disaster for them and many of their relatives still residing there.
Alas, the only person who even publicly voiced these sentiments was Tulsi Gabbard, who was all but labelled a traitor to her country for doing so.
Now we are in the I Told You So phase of that equation, and it gives me no pleasure to be right about it before it was cool.
Why all these middle east and Euro conflicts end up with the slaughtering of Christians? Based on numbers, shouldn’t we take reciprocal offence. Israel leaps to defend their own, why shouldn’t Christendom. In this we should copy the Jews.

Something to do with “you are the light of the world” and if christians all bale out at the event of troubles, the witness of the real character of the Judaeo-christian God also goes walkabout. Yes, revenge and pre-emptive defence would be satisfying to the self esteem; might even gain a bit of Mana, Utu, Respect. Clear lines of fire only worked briefly for the Anabaptists of the middle ages. Somehow, and I really don’t know how, that is not how the real universe works properly.
Yes there is a place for self defence; just that somehow that does not really change the “heart” attitude of the attackers. Also there is a place for justice and appropriate punishments for criminal actions. “Western” society is pretty much failing there as well.
