Readers will be familiar with the Auckland Universities actions in requiring their Undergraduate Students to sit a compulsory Treaty Of Waitangi and Traditional Maori Knowledge course. Apparently seven thousand students will take the course this year and the cost of $5,730 is a significant impost for a course that will probably not be relevant to the studies of many of them.

The University has been intransigent in sticking with this compulsory course when approached to have it changed to an optional or elective course for those students that want to take it..
