In an UnHerd essay out today, Ryan Zickgraf warned of “the greying of the Resistance.” He asked, “Where did the kids go? The best answer is that most of them didn’t vote at all,” but “when the youth did vote, they leaned Republican.”

I find this part of this chart shocking. I sometimes talk about narrative violations, and if we knew anything about Donald Trump eight years ago, it was that young people didn’t like him. And Republicans had been maybe throwing away young people for generations in order to run up their margins among seniors. But if you look at this chart, 75-year-old white men supported Kamala Harris at a significantly higher rate than 20-year-old white men.” – Ezra Klein

Ever since the 1960’s-70’s the Left has assumed that they own the youth vote, possibly only losing them as they grow older and more conservative in the face of life’s experiences. Yet even in the face of Reagan grabbing much of Gen-X in the 1980’s (and them winning it for Trump forty years later) the hold that the Age of Aquarius has on the minds of the Western Left remain unbroken.

Take a look at this video clip from the 1988 movie, Field Of Dreams, where Ray’s wife confronts, in a school meeting about library books, a “book burning Nazi cow” who didn’t live the the 1960’s but “had two 50s and moved right on into the 70’s”. The oozing self-congratulation over the Left not being censorious, plus loving, tolerant and kind – compared to the Conservative Squares of other Boomers and their Depression/WWII parents – has not aged well, as Gen-Z discovered in the Covid years, plus earlier times of DEI:

Plus DEI and White Women. It should be noted that the Gen-Z thing is more about men than women, although even the Gen-Z females are starting to trend Right since 2020, possibly because of the Trans issues being pushed by their older sisters.

The thing is that the real lessons of the 60’s-70’s were right in front of the Left all the time, as the following quote points out in discussing why the famous Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Texas was able to establish its musical legacy:

It was girls in halter-tops. That’s what caused the petri dish to runneth over. When the rednecks were coming into the beer garden and seeing the hippie girls in their bellbottoms, they’d immediately start missing haircuts. And the hippies were already wearing cowboy hats, because if they wanted to buy a case of beer when they were traveling, they had to put their hair out of sight. The costumes were interchangeable, and the hormones were raging. All those guys with cowboy hats started growing their hair and all those guys with long hair started wearing cowboy hats and pretty soon there was nothing but girls in halter tops standing between them.

By contrast the Armadillo’s offspring, the famous South By Southwest music festival is not faring well:

Something was clearly amiss at this year’s South By Southwest music festival. The Austin Convention Center — usually the bustling hub of the event — was practically a ghost town at noon on Friday. The center’s massive Flatstock concert poster art show had already packed up and left, a day earlier than usual. The annual free public daylong concerts on the banks of Lady Bird Lake had been condensed into one day. Then, on Sunday afternoon, The Austin American-Statesman reported the four-day music-focused portion of SXSW will be eliminated in 2026, with music events folded into a shortened version of the overall festival.

As Ace-of-Spades puts it, in an article about the general decline of Austin, with an increasing rate of people leaving yet another Deep Blue city, the modern Left (and hence the Democrat Party) are just no fun:

Back when Austin was simply weird, it was a delightful melting pot of politicos, educators, hippies, rednecks, musicians, and regular suburban Texans. Music bound those groups together…. Apparently, tech bros and AWFLs just don’t foster a music scene the same way that hippies and rednecks once did,

But the offspring of those hippies are getting it in the neck just as much as those rednecks in cowboy hats and US flag shirts seen in Mario Nawfal’s X-comment above. Compact magazine recently had an article about the impact of DEI in the world of writing, The Vanishing White Male Writer, with a key quote here:

With all this it should not come as a surprise to the Left that they’re losing young men – and it’s a global phenomena:

New Zealand also, as “dedicated Marxist-Socialists” are noticing, The destruction of young men by wounded masculinity:

We told a generation of young women that every man would try to rape them and told a generation of young men they were rapists. It’s no wonder we are where we are.

Come back young men! Join the Great Class War. As the comments over there from some of the women demonstrate, that’s going to be hard to impossible after more than four decades of pandering to feminism and two decades of allowing to go toxic inside the Left. I don’t think the women themselves can hide it for long enough to win an election.

Back in the USA, it’s the same story as Ezra Klein, still in shock from the chart I assume, fails to diagnose the real problem as he talks of the influence of Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate and misses the point that even Far Left nutter Bradbury can see:

Klein and Shor have it backward: It’d be like someone noticing a sales link between Band-Aids and kids getting hurt and then assuming that if you got rid of the Band-Aids, there’d be fewer injuries… the Democrats don’t believe in young men. Instead, they “believe all women.” By contrast, young men are perceived as potential rapists, racists, predators, and bigots. Right out of the womb, girls are naturally good, but boys must be “reeducated” not to be so boyish.
Especially in government-run schools.
Because, if you haven’t noticed, young men are struggling. Compared to women, men are less likely to go to college and more likely to go to jail. They make less money, do worse academically, and have fewer opportunities.
The Republicans didn’t create this! It was purely the handiwork of Democrats.

Here’s Klein again, this time on Bill Maher’s show, where they’re bitching about all the other things wrong with the Democrat Party, especially in reforming the places they control so that people, including young men, don’t want to escape. As with the feminists I think they’re pushing shit up hill on that one. It would be like trying to convince East German communists that they’re the reason people are willing to risk getting shit to cross the Berlin Wall.
