This week in Powerline’s Week In Pictures there are more than a few laughs at the expense of the six women who touched the edge of space for all of three minutes in Bezo’s spacecraft – and then compared themselves to America’s first man in space, Alan Shepherd. This is the second time in two weeks that Shepherd will be turning in his grace.

Amidst the snark about that comparison I saw much talk of the skills and training of the respective “astronauts” involved, but nothing about the fact that 60 years ago rockets were still new, exploding regularly, as well as launching space vehicles built for an environment that nobody knew much about. In other words Shepherd was taking huge risks with his life and knew it. These woman were taking much smaller risks – and didn’t know it, or anything about history either.

The following is definitely me….

And last but not least…
