Well as far as I’m concerned it never went away. But in recent years the anti-meat brigade has had quite a good run, with veganism turning up factory-produced garbage like “plant-based meat” and seemingly any number of voices supporting it, plus the usual echo-and-amplifier brigade of the MSM, backed up supposedly by scientific claims of improved healthcare and saving the planet from Climate Change:
Meat’s reputation has taken a pounding over the last few years. Blamed for poor health, implicated in climate change and attacked for cruelty to animals, it played the villain while plant-based burgers, grain bowls and four-star vegan dishes took their star turn.
…
Five years ago, meat hit a wall. Plant-based burgers were catching on, and the amount of meat the average American ate per year started to wane. By 2022, it was down to 264 pounds — a drop of 10 pounds in two years. Editors at the recipe website Epicurious announced in 2021 that beef would be banished from all future content, citing its contribution to greenhouse-gas emissions. That same year, the chef Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park in New York City — considered one of the world’s top restaurants — retooled his $335 tasting menu to eliminate animal products. Restaurants of all sorts added vegetarian dishes for environment- and health-minded diners.
One reason why I dumped my Epicurious subscription. Wankers.
But amidst all the hype I did wonder how long this would last as I watched guys like this…
… as well as vegans like YouTube star Alyse Parker discovering to their horror that after 30 days of the Carnivore diet they were hooked on beef:
I woke up the next morning feeling more mentally clear, focused, wholesome, and healthy than I had felt in years.
But now even the poor old New York Times, has had to admit the following:
Meat has muscled its way back to the center of the plate. Sales of beef, pork, lamb, poultry and other meat in the United States hit a record $104.6 billion last year, according to a March report by FMI, the nation’s largest food retail trade group, and the Meat Institute, the top meatpacking and processing trade organization.
On average, Americans ate nearly 7 percent more meat last year than before the pandemic, according to one report. And the number of consumers who said they were trying to eat less meat fell to 22 percent, the lowest level in at least five years. The research showed that nearly 98 percent of households buy meat and 73 percent consider it a healthy choice, up 10 percent since 2020….Meat’s rebound surprised researchers…
There’s been a lot of that recently with researchers and “experts” in general on many topics.
What’s worse is that they’ve had to make the connection with the Evil Right Wing of Elon Musk and Joe Rogan proselytizing meat, plus RFK Jnr’s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement that’s pushing to bring back beef tallow for fast food outlets and dump seed oils.
At its peak, one report found that between 2020 and 2023 there was a 47 per cent increase in plant-based meat sales – but over the last two years it seems the bubble has burst.

The owner of a once bustling vegan butcher shop in Sydney fears her business will soon close amid an emerging trend away from meat-free products. The shift has resulted in dozens of vegan restaurants closing, companies that made meat alternatives collapsing and supermarkets shrinking their vegan offerings
Suzy Spoon has run meat-free butcheries that bear her name in the Sydney suburbs of Marrickville and Newtown for more than a decade but business is drying up. “Woolworths has reduced our range dramatically and Harris Farm has quartered what they would buy from us before Covid. It’s terrible for our business….We’re out of money. We’re out of everything, we’re tired.”
Click on the link and you’ll find that Suzy Spoon looks exactly as you would imagine, given her beliefs and her business, which may soon be going down the tubes, joining the list of others in Australia noted by that article.
I’m going to enjoy my steak tacos tonight even more than usual.
As one who seasonally fasts from animal products, it’s amazing how vivifying to the body and soul both meat and cheese can be when one hasn’t had them in a long time. The brain fog that veganism induces is real. I can’t imagine living my life like that all the time. It’s as if the mauri of the animal invigorates you when you eat it.
Grazing animals produce no extra CO2 at all. It is called the carbon cycle which most learned at school.
Some of it looks likely to be tolerable from time to time..

The way “Truth in Advertising” notions allowed the Promotion of “Plant based Meat’ was a total abomination.
Similarly for “Soy Milk” that is at best “SAP”, I could perhaps accept “Soy Sap as a whitening agent”.
In a world where regions of France are allowed a virtual monopoly on wine varieties it seems rather obnoxious to have a “Paste”. made of vegetable residue marketed as Meat as a monumental Fraud, perpetrated it seems unchallenged.
