Since its author died yesterday at the age of 85. Farewell Sir Bob, this nation needed another thousand like you, both in terms of wealth creation and scathing humour.

What follows is one of my favourite memories of the man.
And just a year ago this conversation happened. I had not realised that Jones had committed two assaults on media people, the one discussed below with Sean Plunket on The Platform is with a cameraman who was attempting to take photos at Jone’s house. The cops combined this and the Vaughan incident into one charge.
Jones was convicted and fined a $1000, famously asking if paying $2000 meant that he could hit Vaughan again?
Most interesting is that Jones vehemently anti Trump. He was absolutely certain Trump wouldn’t win this last round.
Yeah, I dealt with that topic last year: Bob Jones and The Art of Hate Fetishism.
Jones and Brockie falling over within days of each other seems to be the end of an era. An era that at it’s peak included James, Mc Phail, Grant, Gadsby, Tremain and (in his early days) Bennett plus several others slightly shadowed by this group.
An era in which New Zealand produced thinkers who were able, often using humour, to get ideas into public discussion.
They are missed!
Jones in particular (I still have most of his non-boxing books and have read all of them that I know of) was first and foremost an author, columnist and commenter who’s wit and humour made considering his points easy.
Jones himself stated that he was probably a columnist who ran a business.
I now await Mr Jones returning to tell us of his meeting with the bearded guy in the nightie and how it went.
His irreverence was appreciated for its ability to piss off all the right people. But I remain disgusted with the cynical way he threw his weight around in politics. He was a major backer of New Zealand First, and if it were not for him, Ardern may never have been Prime Minister. That’s a fact. May God have mercy on his soul.
